VRSF or FTP charge pipe?

Hey everyone,
Forgive me if this has been asked before, still new to the forums. I just got my 17 LBB M2 last week and still on cloud 9 about it! With that being said, I am ready to get down to business and buy a charge pipe as I know it's an essential. I was looking at both the FTP and the VRSF options. My question is if there is any difference between the two? The VRSF is around $100 cheaper. Is it worth paying the extra for FTP or is a pipe a pipe at the end of the day? Thanks in advance

I’ve had my VRSF for two years zero issues. Basically anything that’s not plastic won’t crack

That's good to hear the VRSF has been good for you. After buying the M2 I would like to spend less wherever I can as long as I'm not cutting corners lol

s2m2 it looks like you’re in CA. I’ve been having a hard time finding charge pipes that are allowed to be sold in CA — something about CARB thinking they’re related to emissions somehow (seems cockamamie to me, but whatever).

I’ve started a poll over here to find out about folks’ experiences with aftermarket charge pipes in CA and specifically whether they’re getting flagged during smog inspections:
https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1997150

I also want to upgrade to a metal pipe, but am a little unsure of whether that’ll be a problem for me down the road here in CA. I’ll be interested to hear about what charge pipes you’re able to purchase and how the smog inspections go for you!

out of the two, i'd pick FTP

They have top-notch customer support.

Whatever you get, wrap it in reflective Gold tape, will keep temps down.

I'll definitely keep you updated. Hopefully the charge pipe will pass smog with no issues, but with CA who knows lol. I ended up going with FTP because it seemed like the best product, gonna be installing in the next couple of weeks.

Im in SoCal and have had both the VRSF and FTP Chargepipes. It was not an issue for a state ref or for a smog check. you'll be fine.

I like the ER and Mad style Chargepipe - they have a larger 3” section that’s longer than the VRSF style and even FTP I believe.

That’s great! I’ve definitely read about some folks’ aftermarket charge pipes getting flagged during smog check, but I’m getting the impression that it’s not the common case.

I went with VRSF and liked the fact that the shorter portion was near the top/intake area (as opposed to down by the intercooler) which means the flexible tube was higher up and thus the clamps were easier to reach from the top of the engine bay and tighten down as necessary.
