MPE .... or Fabspeed Sport Cat Downpipe?

Hi all, I'm considering the M Performance Exhaust or the SC downpipe, and recommendations? Does the MPE drone in comfort mode on the highway? I do know about the vibration startup issue. If you have either of these would you do it again???

Initially I was on the fence with my MPE but after adding the stock resonator I love it.

I have the MPE and like it a lot. It seems to get better & better over time. I think I'm the kind of person who likes my exhaust kind of loud, so take what I say with a grain of salt. I've heard others complain of drone, and while it does; it doesn't bother me at all.

I love my M Performance Exhaust. If you code out or bypass ASD, their is no drone in any drive mode. And the exhaust sounds the same in all modes.

ASD is the problem not the exhaust. ASD is just softer in comfort mode.

I love the Fabspeed Sport Cat on my M2! I bought my car just a couple weeks ago with 5500 miles on it, and the previous owner had put the sport cat on. I am going to put the Dinan resonator delete on this week for around $375 installed. From what I can tell, this combo is as loud as the MPE for about $1000-$1500 cheaper.

I vote fabspeed all day. With the SC you will gain not only sound but also power and the turbo will spool faster. Plus you can always add a dinan res delete for cheap and make it sound even better, all for a fraction of the cost of an MPE.

I plan to get both, but opted for the Sport Cat first as you get both performance and auditory gains while the MPE is mostly just auditory.

With both of these (mpe +sc) the car drones like a b!tch at 3k rpm...in ALL modes. Makes long highway cruising all but impossible unless you crank the stereo. Just warning you.

No, that is ASD not the exhaust. Code out or use the ASD bypass harness.

I've had that combo and now with the MPE. It sounds good but the MPE is louder and better sounding. Don't bother with the resonator delete. It didn't make much difference.

That's incorrect. MPE + DP/SC still drones without ASD, plenty of forum members here can attest to that. There's literally ppl welding their stock resonators back on trying to combat the issue.

I'm experiencing the same thing! I'm getting a Vibrant 12" resonator added tomorrow. I will report back the results!

I agree with you when there is a down pipe. But the statement was with MPE and a sports cat.

Makes no difference if you have Sportcat or catless dp, same issue. Coding out ASD/getting a harness helps a little but it doesn't fix it.

My mistake then. I thought the sports cat replaced the cat converter.

I've been really surprised about the number of things that can affect exhaust sound. It's not just the downpipe / cat, resonator or cat back exhaust, the engine tune also has a HUGE amount to do with it.

Think about how the cold start sounds. It's quite different to regular running, and quite a bit louder. Sure the increased revs have an impact on that, but it's mostly the tune.

BM3 have recently toned down the exhaust burbles in their OTS tunes (v5.0 to v5.3) because the Stage 2 tunes, particularly 93 Octane, were incredibly load, particularly on overrun, and I have a Fabspeed SC and Stock cat back exhaust. The bangs it produced were like a gun fight, it was embarrassingly loud driving home in the suburbs.

I say all of this because the decision to go MPE or not depends not just on if you like sound or power, there is more to consider. If you're going to tune the car, it's not necessary from a free flowing perspective, and the tune will make things just as loud with the stock exhaust anyway. I'd actually be inclined to think that if you had MPE + SC + tune, you'd be deafened by the noise on overrun!

As people have said SC is a DP.

I have coded out ASD.

Still drones horribly @ 3K.

Have since changed FMIC/Boost/Charge/Inlet pipes and added a stg2 tune.

Still drones horribly @ 3K...especially under load.

..and as Nezil stated, now it sounds like the 4th of July every time I let off the throttle...although I'm getting kind of used to it to be honest. Car is just so much better with the tune. "Awakened" is the best way to describe it.

I would go with Fabspeed since it adds power as well as sound.

If you are only interested in sound, REMUS is the best sounding exhaust in my opinion

Does the exhaust smell like the CAT. has been removed, with the Fab Sports cat? Any odors or just none ?
