Occasional 'beep'

I've got a pre-LCI M2, and intermittently when driving it 'beeps'.

For those with the Advanced Car Eye dash-cam it's a similar sound to the double-beep you get when it detects an 'event' (typically me driving over a speed-bump or pot-hole), only this time it is a single beep.

Nothing appears on the dash or on the nav screen so I've no idea what the 'beep' signifies.

Anybody have any ideas what it may be. I sometimes get two or three on some journeys and sometimes nothing!?!? I cannot find any common reason as to why it happens.

Any thoughts gratefully received.

All BMWs chime when the temperature outside falls to 3 Degrees Celcius, letting the driver know that there may be ice present on the road. Is this possibly what you are hearing?

It's your exhaust valves opening and closing.

Thanks for the response - unfortunately it's definitely not the temp warning, seems to happen regardless of temp

Really? What prompts the exhaust valves to open / close when cruising? ... I've got the M-Performance exhaust (almost always set to 'track' mode) if that makes a difference...!

Losing the connection or interference, but I don't think it beeps. I've gone through all of the modes on mine with the bluetooth valve control and iDrive, and it never beeps.

If you're sure it's not the proximity alert, I would call BMW to check.

I always open mine as well. It automatically closes when the car goes idle. I've heard it randomly close while slowing down before, but that doesn't happen often. Not sure why it would do that. But definitely closes when car is idle for about 5min.

Are you certain? I've left mine idling for long time and the valves stay open... I even have the Auto Start/Stop enabled on mine. I've also never heard a beep ever when opening or closing the valves. You check your beeper? Still flashing every 5s?

Yup, beeps every time I open and close it myself. And yes, the flasher is off after it closes on its own while idling for a long period of time.

Damn, never hear it beep. Maybe there's different versions?

My guess is it's based on countries. Mine in Canada MY2018 does not beep. Flashes red every 5 seconds.

I don't think it's linked to the b/t exhaust operation. That never beeps when I activate it (just flashes 5x) and I know it stays in 'track' mode as the light continues to flash every 5 seconds.

Intrigued as to what it is, just can't see any reason why / when it happens...!? Thought it may be the dash-cam but can't find anything in the instructions about one beep (only two).

Could it be the speed alert? I prompted mine at 80kph, due to the limits on the roads when I go to work.
