I have to add one more thing to the list.... What is with all the dings and dongs when starting this thing up? It goes crazy when I first start the car - why?

Any form of socialized medicine is despicable. I have known cases in Sweden where the person had cancer, but because they were already 70+ they were refused care.

Many cases? What sort of cancer and at what stage?

The dash light, rear parking sensors, lack of temp gauge I already knew about and don't bother me that much. The HK audio also sounds better in my MY17 then in the MY16 I test drove....ASD is something that needs some testing if I want it off or on... The automatic rev matching when downshifting is something I don't need on the street and would be nice if I could turn if off, but not also not a big deal.
But.....and a big but! After driving my manual M2 for 1.500km I have come to the conclusion that the feel and travel lengt of the M2 clutch is the worst I have ever experienced in any BMW I have driven or any sporty car...and I have driven a lot of fast "manual" cars in my 20 years of driving. In my opinion the clutch is the biggest downside of the M2... There are other small downsides, but nothing this noticeable or worth complaining about. Going to do the UCP clutch mod and hope for some improvement. NO don't mention the clutch stop fitting. That feature is only useful for the end of the clutch travel (when pushing down the clutch)... I have zero problem with that! My problem is with the beginning of the clutch (the last piece of clutch travel when the pedal is at his highest point and fully engaged or almost engaged).

Update, solved the issue of hitting the idrive touch pad but unslecting it as an option. Thanks for that suggestion.
Solved my shoulder issue reaching for the seatbelt, I ordered a seatbelt positioner from a 2010 Dodge Challenger and drilled the holes bigger to fit the M2 head rest. |

I just found a new annoyance. I drove off this morning to fill up with gas on my way to work. A quick 3 block drive so I didnt buckle my seatbelt out of pure laziness. The seatbelt chime came on and in a flash of brilliance I just cranked up the radio to drown it out. Nope. The seatbelt chime gets louder as you turn the radio up. Damn you BMW engineers! Foiled again by your attempts to keep me safe! Now where did I leave the number of that guy who does coding...

So I've covered 850miles in the M2 and I've discovered a couple of things that bug me.
Instrument cluster lighting - what the hell is with that?! My other half has an F21 118d and the cluster is lit perfectly. Anything between 6-7pm I can't read the damn thing! I've turned to putting the side lights on in the day and dipped beam at night. Pulling up to junctions and driving in traffic sometimes there is a jolt from the transmission. It feels like backlash in the gearbox or differential. It only happens at low revs when changing from 2nd to 1st (manual) is this something I should mention at the first service or is it 'normal'? The brake pedal makes a clunk upon returning when you release the pedal. It's when it touched the top of its travel. Anything I can do about this? Anyone else with a manual experiencing this? Excessive steaming of the rear windscreen - it's not terrible but without the AC running it seems to steam up easily at the back. The 118d does it a little too. I like to have the rear window heater running to keep it clear. |

Anyone get any calf pain?
Hey guys,
Sometimes on long drives in the M2, I get this pain (sorta like a cramp) in my left leg calf area (used to happen daily when I first got it) but now it's not as often but occurs sometimes. When I let my friend drive my M2 for around 45 minutes, he started complaining that his left leg was hurting, so we swap again. I never experienced this in my F32, and it has the same seat design as the M2 and I have an extremely similar driving position in the M2 as I did in the 435i. Has anyone else experienced this? We're both 6'2.

The big question is, was it 6MT or DCT? |

I do, and it's driving me nuts. 6MT here, and I drive it daily 50 minutes/30 miles including lights and traffic on winding country roads each way on my daily commute. Because the seats are rotated inward, my leg is on top of the left bolster when my foot is on the dead pedal. Thinking about trading sideways to a DCT but that's a subject for another post. Other than that its a "fall in love with" car for me!

Maybe y'all should stretch before such an arduous journey. I drive 47 miles/~50-60 minutes everyday in one of three different configurations: '98M 5speed, '09 6-speed, & '13 DCT without any problems. Those ergonomic engineers must be overthinking things.
I've also driven the '09 and an '05 Evo from Seattle to SLC to KC and back w/o problems. Last edited by m981addicts; 02-20-2018 at 08:03 PM.. |
