Genuinely curious. Regardless of bmw tax it's a lot more

I was thinking the same thing - is this a special edition of the 370Z?

Speaking as a former 370Z owner who finally grew tired of waiting for Nissan to refresh the platform, I can say it's cheaper because the 370Zs that are brand new on dealer lots, right now in 2018, are nearly identical to the 370Zs that launched in 2009. Nothing has been updated. Old engine, old infotainment, old interior. Old everything. Nissan can barely move them off the lots as it is now. They have had to hold pricing low because everyone who wanted one has already bought, owned, and moved on by now.

That being said it was a really fun car. I loved it. If it weren't for the wife wanting a back seat so we can go on road trips with our dogs I'd probably still own it. The M2 outperforms the 370 is every category but it's not by much. The Z might give you 8/10ths of what the M does, but at a significant savings. It's still a decent car at a decent price IMO.

Here in the USA the difference is only $8810, but only if you choose black as your color. If you choose the only other color available (they only offer two colors), pearl white, the price difference is $8415. That's still a sizeable amount of money, but they're close enough to be in the same ballpark.

I've been watching 370s compete against BMWs at local autocrosses for nearly this entire time. The Nissan 370Z in any flavor is a reasonably competent car and they run very close times.

Agree 100% with @DETroadster on the fact that this vehicle is OLD.

So old.. that it was around to compete against the M2 predecessor.. the 1M in this magazine comparo from December 2011.

For reference.. in the US.. The 1M was priced from $46K stripper to $53K loaded. The cayman R was around $76K.

In my country for various reasons they're closely tag priced. I rarely see 370 in the wide.

Update its drivetrain (VQ30+ZF8at) and suspension, I guess 370Z (or call it 400Z?) will outperform any M on track that's currently available.

If GTR from Nissan has competed with 911, Fairlady is a match for Cayman.

Agreed, if I had a third enclosed garage, I'd still have my Z. The M2 overall is the better, faster car. However if you enjoy decent power, hydraulic steering, short wheelbase and good mechanical feel to a car, the Z is a very good bargain.

If you like the Nismo's looks then by all means, that's the Z you should get. However the bargain Z to buy is the Sport Z. Upgraded brakes, wheels, differential & spoiler versus base, starting out at $33,500 msrp but you'll be able to get it for a lot less.

Add an axel back exhaust, front sway bar, and RJM clutch pedal (if 6mt), all for under $1,000 and you will have an excellent driving machine, plus a very dependable car.

Another thing to add, while the M2 might be a d**k magnet. Nismo & Sport Z's will also have females notice you. I've surprised a few females taking selfies or pics of their friends as I approached my parked Z.
