Serious Question@!@! Enuf Power?

Hello All
I am currently (unpatiently) awaiting my 4th quarter MY18 build-slot. I "test-drove" an M2 in July. I only had it for about 5 miles...15 minutes. My salesman let me have fun, but obviously didn't get to do a burn out or attempt to get real sideways. I have an RS4 currenlty. Fast Fun and Beautiful... but hard to act a fool as it has too much traction!

I watch the youtube videos and see the hosts doing burnouts and drifts around every curve. I have had my share of 'murican V8 muscle cars, I know how to get sideways.

My real question: Is the M2 powerful enough to lose traction when u want it to?
(i know the trick to swerve it into a drift) a good driver can get almost any car sideways. But I am only a decent driver, i still need help from the car.
I am 90% sure i want this car but i have heard from more than a few people that it isn't THAT tail happy. Or that it is perfectly balanced(nice way of saying not tail happy?) I plan on modding/reaching +400 hp and +450tq. I am not a track monster, but i do partake in track events. I don't live and die by my lap times. Or really care where the M2 laptimes stand against competitors. I want a fast fun MANUAL that can get sideways and do other holligan-ish things while still holding it's own on track days. I hope i am in the right market. For comparison cars... budget is just shy of $99k.

Just got to turn traction control completely off.

Even in comfort mode I have managed to provoke the traction control without even breaking the rev limit for running in

With a budget of $99k, there are many better options, including a Z06 C7, a GT350R, a lightly used 911..

Ok in the UK region so not aware of specific US costs but had a few helpful comments (I hope):-

1. Losing traction yes absolutely. Not s problem in the M2
2. $99k budget would get you an M2 easily as you know but you could add many performance enhancements, have a track day wheel set too etc etc and have some cash in the bank! As others have said you could get a superior car but if you're here seems likely you have more than a passing interest in the M2. I've opened many BMWs and M car before but the scarcity of the M2 makes it feel like a car a bracket above to own also.

Good luck, nice choices to be making

95% of people that buy this car can't use the power that it comes with. If you want a fun car and don't care about lap times....Improve suspension

Even in Sport it steers nicely with throttle so you can use your right foot instead of adding several degrees of steering lock.

In M mode it moves around plenty too. But yes it it set up to be very neutral unless provoked. Certainly never feels inert though.

better or different

I am not old enough to drive a vette, I don't care for the gt350R, a 911GT3 is an option.
With the extra money in my pocket with an M2, i build a detached 2 car garage with a vehicle lift. M2 is in the lead so far.

with that budget, I would look at a used 997.2 GTS (possibly the best DD/track combo 911 in recent memory)--Or possibly a 997.1 GT3 (don't think you can get a 997.2 GT3 for under $100K, but I could be wrong).

Cool, Thanks!!
Only thing is... It MAY have to pick kids up at daycare a few times per summer... i shouldn't limit myself to a 2 seater. Not a deal breaker by any means. gt3 is in the running.
Edit---911 Carerra GTS has back seats... found a 2015 for $102k near me

If you are considering a 911 GTS, then why are you bothering with the M2? I like the M2 as much as anybody else here, but the 911 GTS is a different league....

Yes it does. But your kids had better be small for those backseats. I owned a 2011 997.2 GTS for 3 1/2 years. During that time, I think I put my friend's 4 year old back there one time. That was about it.

In my short experience with the car before ordering I found the chassis to be capable of handling much more power. I think this is intentional as we get ready for M2 competition and M2 CS.

The M2 is not wildly tail happy. The car is very controllable and sometimes I wonder how all of those taking heads drift this car sideways and all over the track. Not for nothing, sideways is slow on the track. They are obviously provoking the drifts with poor driving behavior. Now please understand, I'm not passing judgement on the sideways crowd and it sure does look like lots of fun. I'm just commenting that the M2 is nowhere near that kind of loose. Take it from someone who runs their M2 on track with all the nannies off.

Thanks rich8566 its good to hear the opinions of everyone. I am still #1 on my dealership's CS List. If the M2 does not have enuf stock power, i will mod it until it tickles my fancy Or wait for the CS. have fun!
