That Hard To Find!?

I've been back and forth on cars. I want an M4, but couldn't afford an 80k car. I considered CPO, but do I want something that's been beaten to Hell? I've also considered the M240, but with options, hits the M2 range.

I've asked my BMW friend about them, and he said they're super hard to find/long wait. Is this true!? I'm honestly considering an M2 at this point now.

There are a lot for sale right now but expect to pay retail for a used one. If you are set on getting a brand new one, there are a few out there for MSRP but you have to look for them. Most of them have mark ups.

You can get a new one at msrp if you just want one. But if you want specific options, it becomes much more difficult especially if you are only willing to pay no more than sticker price. Mark ups aren’t Civic Type R crazy but at $65-70k there are other cars to consider IMO. And since I already have a nice 135is, wasn’t worth the hassle. You may have a different opinion though and I respect that.

Do yourself a favor. If you're going to start hunting for a new car with your options @ MSRP, first, go to your dealer and order one. You may throw up your hands after 2 months of looking. If you do, plan B is already in flight. If you wait, you'll be kicking yourself because you'll have to wait 2 extra months for your car.

Just make sure your deposit is refundable in case your scavenger hunt pays off. Most dealers won't have a problem with this at all (mine didn't), as they know they can sell it to someone else in about 15 minutes.

I must have lucked out. I walked into my dealer 4wks ago perfectly happy with my 435 GC just to look at an M2. Now my MG LCI is a week 36 build and to be delivered in October @ MSRP.

My opinion is that the M2 is worth every penny BMW charges for it (but I'm also biased). So if you want one I'd look long and hard because the MSRP models are out there, it just takes some effort to find them

I stumbled on one a few hours drive from me, I was told the prior sale did not go through and I was on the phone at the right time!

I waited for 3 years, but that was because I missed the 1M train!

There are several around that should go for MSRP.

Not many new 17s at MSRP out there and most 18 dealer allocations are spoken for. Check CarGurus and AutoTrader. OP might see them sitting on lots come late spring. But you make it sound so easy

I waited over 18 months from deposit. Still waiting. One week to go.

I'm probably going to be the first LCI ED on these boards.

I'm a little jealous of people who haven't had to wait at all, but it will be worth it for the ED.

Same. sucked! The experience of trying to acquire a M2 was awful too say the least. I think trying to acquire a 1M would've been a much much worse experience. Way to much fuckery and scumbaggery with my M2 experience. Extrapolating my experience with the M2 purchase to a 1M purchase...I am so glad I missed that boat.

I ordered mine from Bev Hills BMW. The name would suggest you are going to pay though the roof but as part of Sonic Auto Group they won't sell above MSRP. Not sure what their allocation list looks like but try them and all of the dealers on this list.

I just dealt with Neda at Bev Hills on a 330 for my sister 2 days ago and as the #1 sales person in the US she should have some serious pull. Call her and say that Jason reco'd you. 323-801-1501

some get lucky, some wait for a year. it all depends on when you walk into the dealership.

Yep, that's how it seems to go. I saw one for the first time at the SC performance center when visiting family down there. Immediately thought it was the coolest car I had seen in a long time. Knew nothing about it, not on my radar at all.

Two weeks later I am stopped at a red light near home. I look over and see one sitting out front of the dealer's showroom. It had just come off the truck. Pulled in, was told it may be available. Asked them to let me know. Went home, checked with the boss, came back and bought it, done deal!

I am not sure what I was doing, but I was willing to look outside of my area for one. I could have had three of them, but didn't want blue or white or manual etc. Maybe I'm too picky.

I lucked out with a referral on here. But still had to wait 5 months (and still waiting, Week 32). Have been tempted to pull the trigger on another car many times

Wow the US supply seems really restricted. Picked up mine from a car on the dealer floor, near 15% off. I'd say in the UK it's now almost a standard car like the rest of the range. Year waits are a thing of the past. I was in getting my 1200 service today and another LBB Pre Reg was on display, deliver miles for less than MSRP as you would say. Maybe the UK demand fall dropped or the popularity is way high in the US?

Fantastic car, only had it a month but probably my favourite to date by far. Size, power, simplicity, all just perfect.

The realist in me will point to regulations, taxes, and a bunch of other shit I’ll never understand to explain the supply constraints in the US. Or the assembly line constraints of the factory.

The conspiracy theorists in me will point to the fact that it took 20 years for us to get the “cheaper” 6 cylinder MB S-Class (and a 5 page list of other cars). Manufacturers tend to only want to bring their most expensive offerings stateside. Which is why you’ll never see a Eclass taxi on our streets. So supply constraints are probably purposeful to keep demand and perception up.

It does happen, as some have said, it often comes down to luck. I was traveling and got an autotrader alert that there was a listing that just showed up in Jacksonville. To my surprise it was my dealer! I called up and the car WAS for sale (my delivery was still about 6 weeks out). It was a PE, which isn't for everybody. I would have checked it out but was 7 hours away. I posted it on here and found out that a board member picked it up and owns it today.

Like the guys here said its luck of the draw. I walked into my dealership to see a DCT AW they had just to see if I liked the car in person but they did not have a manual available. The CA told me we have an allocation and placed the order right there with a refundable deposit and got the car 2 months later while it was built. No wait list or nothing and it came with all the options and the transmission I wanted.

And some people have waited a lot of months or even a year to get their order in.

I don't know, but anyone from the UK who hops in these threads always says the UK is swimming in new and used M2s just sitting on lots that BMW can't seem to give away, so they are super confused why anyone would have trouble finding one, let alone one at less than MSRP.
