First, the stick shift will go, then the gas engine, then the steering wheel.

But it won't actually do anything - we'll just have to pretend.

If a sporty hydraulic steering rack requires too much muscle for you to operate, you might need to turn in your man card.
I must admit after driving with electric steering for two years, going back to hydraulic felt quite tough and weirdly hard to turn. After a month or so I got used to it and appreciated the force feedback a lot more.

The fact that BMW does not offer a better feel on M models is hard to understand. They can have regular and sport steering. All other non-M models are fine if they have rubber band steering but customers that like to feel the car should have an option to check that box. I was hoping the M2C would be it but it appears not.

I sure miss real steering

the feel of the hyraulic steering in my 2018 STI is sorely missed. it's pretty much the only thing I liked in the STI more than the M2. And I liked it ALOT more.

There is no way EPS can duplicate the feel of real steering. Steering the M2 feels like a video game to me. It's tight, it's precise, it's sufficiently heavy....but it ain't real.

I guess I don't drive the car on the limit often enough. I don't see much difference between the non-M e46 hydraulic and F87 electrical. I think the weight and feedback are just fine.

I have heard that no EPS system currently available can match the feel of a hydraulic system. Is this true and if so will there be some point where it does match the feel, or are those days gone?
The old X1 has wonderful steering if I'm not mistaken the same steering rack as the old non-M 1-series. When I drove the M2 and got back into the 1M (which has the E9X competition steering rack as stock)—-the 1M felt like a revelation!! NO electronic steering rack can match hydraulic. Doesn't matter what the programming is they just lack the feel. Electronic steering simply lacks the connection, literally...

Just saw this thread....

I spent the afternoon Saturday on the 1/2 mile wet skidpad at Michelin specifically to evaluate the EPS in the M2C. Here's the link if interested.

As for highway driving, the M2C is fantastic. Nailed down, straight as an arrow, no wandering, and it has nice feel with slight movement off center. BMW has done a great job at reprogramming EPS on this car imo, and I'm the last person I thought would/could ever say that.

Every M2 can have the M2C steering. Just get the latest istep updates and then code the f87cs steering option.

I've done it and it's fantastic!

BMW Master Plan

Step 1: Replace hydraulic steering with EPS in every model.
Step 2: Wait out the complaints and make some minor tweaks to appease the loudest critics.
Step 3: Wait it out until everyone becomes fully acclimated to EPS.
Step 4: The fix is in; ordinary BMW owners now bitch how "heavy" hydraulic steering feels when they drive an older car.
Step 5: BMW enthusiasts are forced to

I use the M4GTS EPS and MDM. Love both.

How can you get the m2c coding for the steering for og m2? This sounds like good upgrade

Yes, actually the E92 steering feels very artificial in comparison to the Z4M steering rack.

a) I thought the F87 didn't have ASD
b) you can code it out

But it's still better than the EPS. I am occasionally allowed to drive my wife's E90, and the steering on that is just lovely.
