I need around 6 cameras or so. Ill be installing it myself.

I just returned from deployment and I need to install a home surveillance system around my house.

Ive been doing a lot of research, but there are so many different brands and options, Im lost.

What do you guys recommend and why?

Looking for clarity, night vision, reliability and under 1k.

I bought a 16 camera package from lorex on black black Friday of last year. Was 1,200.00 for 16 2k cameras and DVR. The picture is incredible during the day and at night. My brother in law works for a security company (Level 3 tech) and is very impressed with the cameras. Dont waste your time at Sams, costco, etc.

I highly recommend Lorex.

Edit: Bought something similar to this - https://www.lorextechnology.com/hd-i...0804-1612W-1-p but it was MSRP 3,000.00 at the time. Cameras are progressing incredibly fast. Most camera companies are skipping 2k and going straight to 4k.

I use the Dlink camera and DVR system. Not sure what the limit is on how many cameras you can have, I think you can have at least 8. It's possible to view the live feed as well as recorded footage via a smartphone app. Easy to install yourself and uses an ordinary USB hard drive as the DVR, a 1 TB drive can hold maybe a month of footage recorded continuously (not motion activated) and will loop over the oldest footage once it's full. The video can be exported to a Windows Media player file if needed in small clips. Also you can pan the cameras remotely from your smartphone.

https://www.amazon.com/EZVIZ-Surveil...+camera+system

Good pricing, nice app, worth looking into.

The dlink has night vision. I think most of them do now. Depending on how many cameras it can be had for under $1k. The cameras are around $80-$100 each. The hard drive is $60 bucks. The DVR is maybe $69. Used cameras are less, maybe $39 on amazon for HD and night vision.

It's one thing to have "night vision". It's another to have an actually good picture/video when it's in use. Not all cameras are created equal. That's why you pretty much get what you pay for.

If you want to see what good night vision performance looks like, go to this website: www.networkcameracritic.com .

While the cameras reviewed are some what old now, the reviewer (RIP) posted both still frame pictures and video of the night vision performance of the cameras he reviewed. His review of the Hikvision cameras is what swayed me to having these cameras installed in my home.

Link me which one you're talking about. Honestly any of the 2k systems are going to be good.

Attached is one of my back yard cameras that I screen shot.

Honestly. I'm very happy with the cameras. I didnt read into that bundle deeply but it looks good to me. I would opt for a longer warranty... they warrant their products no questions asked if its not working properly. If you can wait until November you can probably pick up a set of 4k's for the same price on Blackfriday. Go for it dude!!

damn ill be deployed again during black friday so i may not be able to snag any deals in time since the internet connection is sparse overseas.

i have an offer from my credit card for 150 off 500 or more in purchases so ill probably just use that and get this system for 400 OTD.

The quality of the video on my cameras is as good as any others i've seen, including the screen shot above. It is black and white in night vision mode though. I'm not aware of any that are color in night vision mode.
