i heard about google..

what i meant was some people would prefer the car to be longer and usually by adding length, you add weight, so that scenario you mentioned - adding length to gain a 300 lbs savings would be a win win. it wouldn't be a "sacrifice" to me

I'm not knocking the CTR at all and i am in an amazement of its performance (not looks); however, it's not built to the standards of BMW. I work on my own cars and had a 2012 WRX before my M235 (my first German car ever at 42l). The difference in engineering is boggling. Not trying to be a BMW nutswinger, but it's clear to me why the 2 series is a bit hefty for it's size. My M235, no moonroof, 6mt, and full weight is 3,335.
FWD vs RWD is quite a weight saving in a front engined car. For example - compare the weight of Golf GTI (FWD) vs Golf R (AWD) and the AWD is 300 lbs heavier, RWD should be lighter than AWD I would imagine but still plenty of weight transferring the power to the back of the car. Then add on the extra weight of 1 more litre of displacement and two more cylinders.

Of course it's not just total weight but the location of that weight, is it low and is it centered. BMW do a better job of keeping weight balanced and low than many other companies which I believe is why many say that the M2 hides it's weight well.

Wouldn't be a "sacrifice" to me either, hence the quotes. But I wouldn't prefer the car to be longer, nor have a longer wheelbase.

Yes, that's why I posted a link to BMW's site in that era (using the internet wayback machine) showing the 3415 lb curb weight.

Sitting in a chair most of the time for work (IT guy) and not being a fan of other physical activity (I hate sweating, and being big I sweat a lot), and also enjoying good food; all of those things contribute to my problem. :P

I'm an IT guy by trade and tech nerd by choice.
I like HPDEs, parts of US Hwy 129, NC 28, and the Cherohala Skyway.
I'm also a fan of aural pleasure.

I'm on my feet all day, constant go go go, but still can't loose weight. We graze all day in the OR on carbs. I can't get the administration to put some God Dam protein in the OR lounge. LOL.
