Hope the s55 is new base engine. If that's the case will definitely get one when my lease on 340 is up 2 years from now. When does m2 production end??

At least two types of M2 test mules have been spotted lapping the Nürburgring in September 2016 and March 2017:
  • with sound suggesting an N55 engine (maybe a B58 engine according to some): here and here;
  • with sound suggesting an S55 engine: here, here, here, here, here and maybe here too (though unclear).
A German source reported last Winter to have had a quick peek at a parked M2 test mule inside BMW M at Garching (source: here):
  • body color: black
  • transmission: manual
  • dashboard and interior: camo, but digital speedometer and colored stitching visible
  • engine bay: carbon fiber strut brace à la M3/M4 (which, as we know, features the S55 engine)
  • headlights: new LED design
  • front end: heavy camo (plastic parts) (likely still under construction)
  • rear diffusor: partial camo (tape) (likely still under construction).

I don't believe any of it until ynguldyn says it's true.

The screenshot at the German forum 2erTalk showing "F87CS", "03/18" and "LPZ" (Leipzig) was accompanied by the German comment (from someone who's usually well-informed): "The M2 CS is in any case scheduled for 03/2018. Also the M2 GTS is scheduled for 03/2019. Currently under consideration for limitation to 999 units." (source: here).

Feel free to connect some dots to imagine what could be seen on a 'next page' or 'scroll down' screen shot.

410 can be had with a $1200 sport cat DP and $300 Dinan tuner or $200 JB+

Not hating, just saying why detune the S55?

Yeah but 530 rwhp (610 crank hp) can be had with just a tune on a S55.

I'm running 410/420hp at the minute and il be honest, unless they sort the suspension out its not worth having the extra power. On the country roads in the UK the car fights the suspension at full tilt (tune on) and all your left with is the feeling that the suspension and chassis cannot cope with the power, tourque and surface. Even with traction off (dsc still on) you find it coming on for a second and that can also be enough to unsettle the car. On smooth roads it's great, but any bumps and it just doesn't work as one until. Switch back to stock, albeit with dp and intercooler, it's much more compliant. Basically, it's great for the track but not as great on b roads.. Just my opinion

Interesting to know that BMW M CEO Frank Van Meel disclosed earlier this year in an interview that manuals represent ħ 20% of all M2 sales (source: here):
"Q: Do you think BMW M will continue to offer cars with manual transmissions? How long term do you think that will remain an option?
A: Well, there are two ways of looking at manual transmissions. One is the engineering standpoint, which says it doesn’t really make sense. Even though it is lighter, it is slower, and the automated gearboxes have a better fuel consumption. So from an engineering standpoint, it does not make real sense. On the other hand, there’s this emotional thing. We still have a relevant amount of people that are wanting to drive a manual, especially on M2, M3, M4, especially in the U.S., but also worldwide. On the M2 we have a worldwide take rate for manual transmissions of about 20 percent, which is a lot. As long as the demand is there, we will stick to the manual gearboxes.
We see strong shifts in the demand for manual gearboxes. In the M3 and M4, it went down from generation to generation to where it is right now, between 15 and 20 percent. It used to be over 50. So it’s going down, but now it’s stable. In the M5 and M6 it went down to almost zero, so we had to take the manual out because there was no demand whatsoever. But the answer is that as long as there’s a strong demand for manual gearboxes, we will try and have them available in our cars."
So there is hope, especially as a M2 variant with manual transmission has been spotted.

Furthermore, also interesting to know:

It is strange that they have the F22 LCI on the list and not the F87 LCI.At least the info confirms that the M2 CS will start production in March.

What issue are you referring to?

Honest question - I have a new F80 ZCP and haven't heard of any engine issues.

M2 CS S55 in 2018 is not news, only the exact month is.

Regular M2 N55 is supposed to be getting the LCI later this year. Will it be dropped once the CS is out? I don't think so, but I could be wrong - I'll give this 80/20 chance, basically the same I gave to Clinton/Trump. If there's been a very recent decision to continue with CS only, I won't be surprised if the LCI is also cancelled (less than a full year of production wouldn't make sense).

I am not aware of the GTS.

any clues on

1) approximate pricing of cs
2) availability of manual?

I would be surprised if the base M2 didn't continue in some form or another - given that the CS is a "special" model, I would think even less of those would be made compared to the number of M2s built to date. I am sure the CS will be priced and be difficult to procure accordingly.

A CS only offering would also defeat the purpose of pulling folks into ///M...just based on how difficult I am sure it will be to get one, and it won't be cheap.

Only have room for one car - the F80 is it.

Loved the Cayman...but having a P-car is quite the commitment. I was approaching the 20K service, and needed tires, and the quoted prices at the dealer made my eyes water.

I really miss the sound of the screaming F6...but the M3 is more comfortable, faster in a lot of typical situations, much more practical, and yes - cheaper. It was a win-win for me. I got to have the 981 for a couple of years, and hope to have another P-car someday.

It's hard to beat all the day-to-day value you get from an M3.
