MPG gauge bugging me...

I normally don't really care about my mpg but the analyst in me is annoyed by the mpg gauge. Why in the F does the mpg max out when the car isn't moving and I'm idling? I'm not moving but the engine is still running. Last time I checked, zero divided by anything except zero still gives you zero. My wife's civic does the right thing and it goes to zero in this same situation.

thoughts?

because you are burning gas and not moving, if you remain at that current position you will get 0 Miles on your full tank of gas, its just being honest with you

no i know that, thats what i said. I'm saying the mpg gauge maxes out in this scenario... like 50+mpg when in reality it's zero mpg. why does it do this?

That is just wasted space. There should be no MPG gauge.

Wish BMW M would do something about.

I don't have an M2 yet. The 1 series MPG gauge only shows numbers.

Only slight downside is that you get an empty space where it used to be - and no other usable data is displayed in its place.

It would have been neat if you could switch it to like. Power or Torque meter once you switch to Sport or Sport+, which is available in the iDrive screen.

So you post that 1200x1200 photo in over 50% of all your posts. Even one of your wall visitors is convinced you post it every time by accident.

May I suggest making

The algorithm that calculates your mpg is probably outputting an infinite asymptote, hence infinity, or way off the top of the chart.

I would say your concentrating on the wrong aspects of the M2, get out and drive and don't worry about MPG math

the mpg gauge happened the day the M division engineer got sick, and was replaced by the guy from the i3 production line. hummmm what is very important to place here in a 365HP RWD M car.... of course another mpg gauge.... thats when we all lost it.

BMW, once again, where is the freaking oil temp gauge? why do I need two mpg readings and zero oil temp gauge in a sport car? you must have a non-M guy infiltrated in the M division.... find him!

ps: sorry for the sort of off topic, but every time I hear gauge and M2 in the same sentence my brain goes where is the oil temp gauge?
