The gauges themselves are still 100% analog(ue) "clocks" The only digital part is the center and lower sections - the same part that is digital on the original cluster.

I've had my M2 for a month (pre-LCI 2017) and I'll say this about the gauges, coming over from a 2015 M4: I really like the orange lighting at night...the M4 uses the bright white lighting day/night. It's very cool how the white lighting turns amber at night. The M4 didn't have this feature.
However, visibility w/the gray dials in the M2 is a problem, especially in bright sunlight w/sunglasses (polarized or not) on. Yesterday morning, I was accelerating full throttle onto the highway, into the sun, and I couldn't see the tach at all, so tricky to gauge (no pun intended) redline for my 2-3 shift. It will also be annoying not to be able to read the tach, on-track, for the few times I glance at it. I'd love to keep the current gauges and maybe just get a white or better background dial for daytime use. Maybe the aftermarket will help us out vs. having to buy a $1,500 gauge cluster from BMW (assuming the LCI set-up fits)? I'd had to lose the cool analog look that the current gauges have. My $.02 |

The visibility issue also goes to the M logo on the pre LCI dial. Most of time I have to look to find out it's right there.
It's no big deal but it'd be a lot cooler to have this little shiny M detail on dial where you have to check all the time. That's for me the second biggest reason wanting a LCI retrofit.
