BMW, once again, where is the freaking oil temp gauge? why do I need two mpg readings and zero oil temp gauge in a sport car? you must have a non-M guy infiltrated in the M division.... find him!

ps: sorry for the sort of off topic, but every time I hear gauge and M2 in the same sentence my brain goes where is the oil temp gauge?
I'm gauging that you have an issue with this.

It would have been neat if you could switch it to like. Power or Torque meter once you switch to Sport or Sport+, which is available in the iDrive screen.
That is true, and is the reason I turned mine back on. The empty space was bothering me more than the gauge. I did keep the stupid recommended gear indicator off....that was really bugging me. It was telling me to shift into 6th when I was at a stop light! Well, not quite, but almost.

Love the M4 gauge layout, but oh well, can't have everything.

Wish BMW M would do something about.
Just turn it off?

Or an oil temperature gauge!

I would assume this is because it is based on a vacuum gauge. So when you come to a complete stop, the computer isn't factoring in you aren't still moving. If you were moving, while using that little fuel, you would be getting amazing gas mileage.

That being said, it's not exactly the most accurate, but accurate enough. I like it because I can tell where the engine likes to be when cruising and hold my foot exactly where it uses the most torque to pull me without using more gas than needed. I drive an automatic (e90 328i) and I can actually get better gas mileage shifting the gears myself partial due to this.

This could have all changed. I just seem to remember this on my older BMWs that always had mpg gauges, so someone please correct me if I am mistaken.

From memory, this sounds correct, and how it was explained to me when I had my E28 535.

sorry kind of off topic - but in the same general area. Is there a way to configure that clock in the lower right of the dash (right under the MPG gauge). it can be redundant if you have the screen saver or Carplay on, which i do and like.

*configure meaning change it to display something else

I turned it off. It's pointless as the M2 has worse MPG than my e92 V8.

Is this also a way to turn off that damn shift display that tries to get me into 5th gear at 35 mph?

No it doesn't. It's undefined or indeterminate.
