I was supposed to be week 35. Once I got to 112, I was pushed back to wk37. Did this happen with anyone else? I think wk 37s from last year had their cars delivered early November?

How do you get updated production status if Genius won't tell you --- is your CA's screen the only way? |

That time frame was very similar to the time it took my 550i (MT ) ED to get from Zurich drop-off into my hands in SoCal in 2006. So, yeah - I think our wk 37 (Sept 11) cars are mid November delivery on west coast. If we're lucky, they might be 1st week of November - but I'm not counting on it. |

Also, in regards to mybmw, since it is a MY18, you will not be able to add it until MY18s are updated on the website. The MY18 F80s are already in production but are not updated on the site so they can't be tracked on mybmw either. I recommend calling the genius line for an update to see if you got moved up. Week 37 really put me in a position where I was considering TT RS or 718 in lieu of getting the M2. Now that I am week 32, it's no long a deliberation! Also, this time, they told me the order status: 112. So that's moved as well, Maybe that means the build wk will stick this time. |

Dang, my build week stays week 37, Genius told me. I guess BMW gave out quarterly allocations without knowing what customers' specs. Once they collect all the information the dealers send in they rearrange the build weeks accordingly by grouping similar specs together. End result is some got bumped up some got pushed out.

Did anyone else change their build and have their dates change? This is the first time I've ordered instead of buying out of the showroom floor... Wearing me out...

I would check in regularly to get the "real" production date particularly if you plan on making any changes. I heard that wk32s were going into production today so I called to find out and now they are telling me wk33. Either way, it turns out I have less time than I thought to waffle around on colors, moonroof, and exec.

I've been week 37 every time I've asked anyone, and that includes the original appointment with the dealer where they configured the build for me. so who knows what makes them change things. From watching "How It's Made" on Science channel, I know that the German car plants purposefully shuffle stuff around so workers don't get bored - they don't want every 2er coming down the line to be identical, they purposefully rearrange builds to keep things interesting. I'd be willing to bet a case of beer that the factory never builds two M2s back-to-back. Desire for variation might be some of why they are juggling dates...

Went from 35 when I got my production number to 37 last week. Called this morning and I'm 33 and it's already in production, scheduled completion around 8/15. Just a heads up to you guys on the fence about options

Week 33 is approx Aug 13 - so it seems really early for a wk 33 to have already started production. Not arguing - just curious (and a little jealous ). Did you hear this from genius, or your CA? |

EDIT: my CA just got back to me, it is production status 150 and has a VIN. EDIT 2: Also, some of the week 28 guys are showing Status 155 production complete as of today, so it seems like wouldn't be crazy for week 33 to be done in 4-5 weeks, (mid august) like I was quoted by the Genius today. All of the assembly line teams are trained in everything, they don't have special people to put together an M vs a standard 2er. (not that there is much different about an M2 other than the body and drivetrain... interiors are the same, just different parts getting slapped in)

The only explanation I can think of that would have it in production for 4 weeks is that there is a 2 week summer-shutdown - and maybe cars can sit half-built on the line for those 2 weeks. Does anybody have insight into that idea? I thought I read somewhere on these forums that the LPZ plant is indeed shut down for the last 2 weeks of July. Which might explain why I can't recall hearing of anybody with build week 29, 30, or 31. Last edited by jjclyde; 07-15-2017 at 05:26 PM.. |
