Biased opinion but I'll stick to my B58 with MPPSK

Using your logic: What makes you think S55 is going to sound much different than N55? Similar architecture.

S55 and N54/N55 have more similarities than S55 with B58. They are all grossly similar though. Clearly the sound is engineered to be raspy as N54 has twin Mitsubishi turbos and doesn't sound anything like S55. S55 sounds a bit like a bad version of S54 which it has even less in common with.

Yeah, cold they sound like lawn equipment.

I drove and heard from outside both the M2 and M3/M4 ZCP cars at M school. I think the S55 in the ZCP cars sounds much better in person than it does in video clips. It's angrier than the N55 exhaust note for sure, I'm not sure it's really much worse. If there hadn't been this controversy I'm not sure I would have paid much attention. They sound like what they are - turbo 6 cyl engines.

I can see that some of you are still in the denial stage and some skipped right to the anger stage. You guys are really going to struggle when the reviews start coming out

The N55 being a single turbo would be different architecture. The exhaust going through two turbos vs one. Also the M2 N55 having a single path vs dual path exhaust, attributes to different exhaust notes. Of course there are other metrics that also attribute to the S55 more raspy note. S55 and S58 will have a more simlar setup, versus the S55 and N55. The S58 is not going to be drastically different than the S55, it will be an evolution. I don’t expect a drastic change in exhaust note.

I think it sound pretty darn good compared to the M3/4. I hope its not like a docktored up video. With what they started with I think they did a good job making it sound decent, you can tell that that was one of the focal points with the years of outrage from everyone saying the S55 sounds like poop.

I would be totally happy with that driving around.

Everyone here must be delusional. I have a 2017 F80 M3 with comp pack and my car LITERALLY sounds exactly the same as this video clip. Lol, 2015 civic M3’s do sound like crap but not all M3’s.

Exactly! I don't hear any difference compared to the stock M3/M4 ZCP. People who say this sounds better than M3/M4 might be referring to the base/Non-ZCP M3/M4 :

I hear subtle notes of N55 with subdued undertones of N54. At idle, there is a hint of S65 that resonates with the mechanical nature of the S55.

Wow. Some in this community have been for 4-5 years now regarding the sound of the S55. It doesn't sound as great, got it. The notion that you can "fix" it with an exhaust; no, you can't. You can improve it, but there is no fix. The S55 is at the heart of the sound. We all know what it is by now. Nothing is going to change until the S58 and we can't even be certain of that.

Some of the biggest differences between N55 and S55 are the exhaust manifolds [use of impulse charging, flow-enhancement, N55 has one manifold feeding a single turbo, the S55 has two manifolds – each feeding a turbo, charge pressure control], and electric wastegate actuator. These things improve the engines characteristics, but unfortunately at the sacrifice of sound. BMW chose performance over sound. One of their goals was for it to behave as much as it could, like a NA motor.

Sound better all you want, M3 Comp seats are better looking and will still smash on the M2 CS.

The S65 exhaust tone hacked into playing from the stereo loudly to drown out the n55 or s55 would solve this? probably not

Bmw M2 Competition...the car so many hate, yet none have driven.

Lots of insecurity around this car. Makes for good entertainment reading.

Someone pointed out, it is like when the ZCP came out for M3/M4. Non ZCP owners were throwing shade. I guess it’s a human reaction.

So many weirdly tertiary observation comments on insecurities. Makes for entertaining reading

What do you think it is about a cold start, do you think it's attributed to the exhaust tubing and muffler being cold?

From my understanding the cold start sequence has a lot to do with heating up the Cats as quickly as possible for emission requirements. Truly, a travesty for the F80/S55 platform. Worst sounding cold start ever. However, once again, my F80 M3 Comp pack sounds great after it’s warmed up!
