That's definitely the furthest thing from the truth. Well, I guess it does apply to the car.

One of the best encounters happened today when a Golf GTI behind me on my left side drove up and gave me a thumbs up. I acknowledged and floored it (sport+ mode) to let him hear exhaust pop on the upshift but at the same time realizing too late he was trying to say something. I slowed back down before my right turn and he caught up and said "An M2!? A fucking M2!? Those are nice! " I laughed and replied "Thanks!" Then he said "I never see those around!" I replied back at the corner of my turn and said "Me neither!" He then gave me a thumbs up and we went our separate ways. (I've yet to catch one in the wild. Only seen in organized events/dealership and private meet ups)

I'm sure I seem to catch more people eayballing the M2 straight after I've washed it. The colour really pops and I'm sure it grabs more attention.
I've had people taking photos and videos of it while driving and in petrol stations. Every day I drive it I notice the odd person gawping and even pointing it out to their passengers in oncoming cars. I used to get it a little in my old Z4 coupe, as it looked a lot more than it was to non-enthusiasts and enthusiasts were keen too. The M2 is in another league though, you catch people lowering the window to hear it n stuff. It's quite cool and makes the car feel quite special. I'm sure it will get a little annoying in time, I've only had the car 2 months! ? |

I have been pulled over three times for not having a front plate.
If you want attention, put your front plate on vertically using the tow hitch, see how many people tell you your plate is crooked. Outside of the car being gorgeous (in my opinion) the crooked front plate gets all the comments. Funny... |

Driving to work this morning I passed a white Nissan van just as I was exiting the interstate and the guy driving flashed a "victory sign" and nodded his head. I flashed him one back and drove the rest of the way to work with a smile on my face!

I had a M235 come up next to me the other day, he rolled down his windows and said go on two, then started beeping his horn. I thought I was in a youtube video there for a second! I'm like NO, its not even broken in yet! He said he had the fabspeed DP and jb+, I think he said. I just seem to get every freaking WRX want to race, which there's a ton of them in CO! More annoying then anything.

Yesterday was hilarious. Was cruising on the parkway in CT when some young greaser looking guy pulled up alongside me in a Lotus Elise convertible, gave me a thumbs up, then proceeded to rip it.
Too bad I'm still in the break in period. People definitely notice the M2, at least LBB when cleaned up nicely. |

Drove by a bake sale on Sunday, sponsored by local school district, and one of the kids shouted, "if you can afford that car, you should buy a cake". No kidding, we laughed for a bit over that one.

Note to self, just add stripes and everyone notices it now. I guess now it looks like a sports car?

I suppose it depends on where you are
In So Cal, BMWs are quite abundant, and I think most people who see the M2 assume its "just another BMW". Those who recognize its an M2 and give the thumbs up are auto enthusiasts who are in the know. The exceptions are i8s; most who see them just scratch their heads!
In this regard, BMWs are just like Porsches. We see lots of them around, but only the enthusiasts spot the special variants -- GT3s, Turbo S, GT4s -- and everyone else just sees another Porsche. 918 and CGT excepted. That said, what I do think people notice is the LBB color. Even though there are a lot of blue cars out there, LBB stands out as unique. I've gotten more comments on the color vs. being an M2. |

I got a thumbs up from a matte black wrapped Chrysler 300 on 24's the day I bought it. Had a guy in a skat pack Challenger act like he wanted to race. I park it WAY out anywhere I go. I was walking up after meeting a friend for breakfast on a Saturday and saw a 10-12 old Civic sedan parked next to me. While talking with my friend a kid walked up & said "excuse me sir" an M2 with M Performance? I said yes. He said I've never seen in person before, only on Youtube. I told him it would be the only one around for a few months until the next allocation arrived assuming it didn't get pre-sold out of town/state. It made me smile remembering how excited I got as a kid when I saw a sports car in person. I still act like a kid when I see one. We were in Orlando at at a mall last fall and I saw a yellow 458 parked in a regular parking spot (it was also raining). My wife couldn't believe how big a deal I made out of it being driven in the rain nor valeted.
