The Pigeon as landed

Picked up my M2 last night. It was a long build process but definitely worth the wait. The dealer warned me about going past 5500 RPM. That didn't go very on my first drive.

You could ask BMW to add the stripes and call it your collared dove!

Congrats! I think pigeon is totally appropriate given you are in Chicago and far from the sea. Good call on not going over 5,500 during break-in...They explode...Well except for the HEA cars that all got taken to redline by every person who test drove them, those have special 5,500+ code in them.

Sorry, just having some fun this morning. Congrats on the car and don't worry if you slip above 5,500 a few times during break-in. You're not going to hurt a thing. Enjoy!!!

The sales guy was telling if I went pass 5500 RPM all the dashboard lights would light-up and need to be serviced.. I called his bluff. If they did that's why they have warranties.

Which is why I would not buy one used.

The sales guy was funny though...

He was joking of course. When you push beyond 5500 RPM during break-in, the soft female SATNAV voice suddenly starts to shout insults in German at you ("What the heck are you doing ?", "Knock it off, no making whoopie on the first date !", etc.).

Happy motoring !

Glad to see a beautiful new car. I was expecting a car parked under trees fouling atrocity!

You know it's really not that hard to follow the modest break in procedure. Whether you believe it or not, it's in the manual for a reason. If there are seating issues it might only really appear on a dyno years from now. Won't be buying your car used!

Based on your logic if it’s in the manual it must be obeyed. The M2 manual recommends using Shell V power gas. Does that mean I should only buy gas from Shell?

Anyone who thinks the drive train isn’t thoroughly broken in before they leave the factory is naïve. Do you think BMW is using its customers do their quality assurance testing based on a single page disclaimer buried in the manual?

Car isn’t for sale bro! I appreciate your opinion anyway.

Initially, it was recorded with Scarlett Johansson in her Natasha Romanov voice. But they found it caused too many people to repeatedly go past 5500 RPM.

It is not fully broken in before it leaves the factory. But a few blips past 5500 in the first 2000 km is not a big deal.

Try keeping it down to Sport... it is almost impossible to NOT go over 5500 in Sport+

Have fun!

I forced myself to drive almost completely in comfort for 1200 miles. After that, it felt like a different car, and I went about seating the rings with a vengence😉.
