Side skirts / winglets comparison

Hello all.

Considering the CS has all the M Performance aero carbon upgrade bits over the Competition as standard, I was suprised it shares the same side skirts.

M Performance does have a carbon side winglets set, at a very high price, but the curved nature matches the lines very well vs many of the after market winglets that are straight.

Though, I’ve found an number of aftermarket skirts + winglets.

I’m undecided if the winglets alone fill out the side profile mismismatch between the front and rear bumper profiles. That is to say, with the low front carbon lip, and somewhat low rear diffuser, the side skirts have an unbalanced gap in my option.

There’s a few options here,

M Performance f87 side skirt winglets - $1200

https://ind-distribution.com/collect...-rear-winglets

Very sleek. Original BMW part a plus. Very pricey for the size of the part.

Vorsteiner Carbon side skirts w. winglets - $1700

https://ind-distribution.com/product...on-side-skirts

I do like how these seamlessly blend into the stock skirts. The rear has a slight accent, not as aggressive as the M winglets though.

RKP F87 Carbon Side skirts sans winglets - $996

https://ind-distribution.com/collect...side-skirt-set

Very deep side skirts. I quite like the lines though, very elegant looking.
Doesn’t have winglets, which would better match the front lip winglets imo. Competitive price.

Monaco Motorsports F87 M2 Carbon Winglets - $470

https://monacoms.com/bmw-f87-m2-carb...kirt-winglets/

Very similiar to the M Performance winglets.
They look less curved in their press photos, but other pics I’ve seen suggest maybe they are closer to the M shape. More ‘chunky` looking though imo.

Not a bad discount option if you want the winglets only maybe.
Due to the prestige of the limited run of the CS, if I went winglet only, I’d reluctantly pay the extra for the “official” part.

3D Design F87 M2 Carbon Side Skirts - $2200

https://ind-distribution.com/collect...er-side-skirts

I think these are kind of ugly compared to the very similar and cheaper RKPs. It has a small winglet, the carbon does look to be laid thick there so maybe that’s where the cost went. Not a structural piece so extra layers of carbon are meh. As the most expensive of the batch I expect better.

—-
Bonus!

The M carbon engine cover.

https://www.shopbmwusa.com/product/5...R-ENGINE-COVER

Should this have been standard too?

Kind of a stupid cosmetic upgrade for the price, but again, limited production special M car, I kind of want this for cars and coffee under the hood show offs.

—-

Any side skirt / winglets options I missed?

What would you add, if any?

Personally, I’m either on the M Performance for the provenance, or the RKP for price/look.

The CF kidney grill?

Ind offers them with the center paint matched. Kind of wondering what that would look look on the HS.

Nice picks overall. I think that’s all I’m going to do, plus maybe the carbon steering wheel center trim and Alcantara visors, carbon + stainless exhaust tips.

I only do OEM for that OEM+ look.

Adding carbon side winglets, carbon side grilles, carbon kidney grilles, and carbon slimline license plate frame for now.

I bought all my OEM carbon bits from Brit PARTS@STBMW who I highly recommend for her great service and pricing.

Funny though I originally started with just wanting the carbon side grilles, then thought the OEM side winglets really accentuated the wheel arches nicely. Last bit (outside of the fenders and trunk lid) would be the front kidney grille... didn't need it but thought it'd be a nice final touch, worst case if I don't like it I'll still have the gloss black.

Line in the sand drawn on the carbon canards though lol

Did they include installation?

I texted my dealer and he didn’t know, was going to ask the service guy tomorrow. (Yes I text my dealer, but yes it was office hours for him).

I found them $200 off at another distributor so I just ordered them,

https://autotecknic.com/products/bmw...ar-winglet-set

along with some carbon eye brows. Not sure I’ll run the brows, but they looked like a nice matching gloss 2x2 weave and were an oddly cheap $99.

No she is a vendor here.

I am getting full PPF done so my detailer needs to remove and reinstall these parts regardless.

If I was not getting the whole car wrapped I would have gotten the parts all port installed.

Good call.

I decided to order the winglets too for PPF reasons. I’m getting it next week so at least now he can do these too, and the carbon grill.

I went with the BMW Performance Winglets. I've never really cared about buying OEM branded add-ons, but with this car, I think it's appropriate. Can't imagine putting cheap knock-off parts on an $80K car.

Just checked out the site for the winglets. Not that I think it's going to matter, but it does say it's not for the competition.

Assuming these should fit though? Can anyone else chime in?

MPerf Winglets were my final purchase. Snuck in my order just before the price increase ($800). Ties in the splitter and completes the look. Still peeved the CS didn't come with every darn MPerf exterior cosmetic in existence, but here we all are dropping more $$$$

Has anyone fitted the winglets themself? Wondering whether betalink is at all necessary or if the rivets and screws are enough? Per BMW install docs, its 15mins labor per side and adhesive should be used - https://rparts-sites.s3.amazonaws.co...Components.pdf

Per BMW, the M Performance Rear Carbon Winglets will work on the M2 Competition and M2CS.

The front winglets will not fit the M2 Competition or M2CS.

I just added the iND supplied winglets and just haven't taken any good pics yet. Here is one that you kinda can tell...

$960 for the pair of M Performance here,
https://www.oempartsource.com/v-2020...or--appearance

I think Turner is the cheapest for the carbon side markers, $340 pair.

THIS^ You sell something at a specific price, honor it with your customer. That's 300 dollars that will cost them several orders and customer relationships. It is great that you shared this!

I have typically done pretty well with my dealer, applying CCA discount and asking for price match, etc. especially if you just picked up a 90K car at full price....

I am very interested in the winglets. Still debating if the Carbon replacements make a big difference for the grills etc. on a MB.

I think you have a case to raise and say, I placed my order, now honour it.
