"Surprise" implies the price increase is outside the expected range... "competition is hot" implies it is on the low side.

You are right, I will be very, very surprised... as it makes no business sense whatsoever with their current lineup.

I was told by my local dealer north of Toronto to expect to be in the range of 95k+ OTD on the Competition - was told there will absolutely be dealer markup and already several people in line I was told to expect 100k+ if I wanted to secure one of the first ones.

Made my decision easy to buy Ohlins + M Performance buckets for my LCI

I think it does, because they know a lot of dealers and customers are going to order them with a lot of options pushing the price up, but the low base price gets good press as they can quote the low base price as the price of the car. The low price also fits the M2 below the M3 and M4 which they want.

I am not as jumpy as you might be - I've still got a ways to go on my F80 lease. But if this looks and feels just a touch more aggressive than the current M2, I am going to getting it for my next car.

I really want to see the HK silver too...that's the color I am most interested in, having had/currently have all the other options.

That's also what I'm most interested to see. Just hope HS is not too white looking, would much rather have it lean the other direction into gray. I'll be right there with the rest of you, on the edge of my seat, waiting, waiting, waiting...

+1 BMW will make their money on options with this car.

Aka, use the Porsche model...the "base" price isn't what gets you - it's the 20K of options that sound like a really good idea when you're building the car.

In my experience silver colored cars are blah. They do not stand out and actually tend to blend in with the roadway. The colors I've seen do not have that "deep shine" look as darker cars do. My M4 is the Metallic Gray and it is gorgeous with carbon fiber items that I have added and the paint shines nicely with waxing. Unless the new silver is dark then I will pass on that color. I'd rather have white than silver and that's not saying a lot. If they do not introduce the gray then I'll likely go with the orange. I'm number 5 on the wait list. I don't look for the new M2 to be outrageously priced unless one really loads up on all available options which is something I don't do. I'm thinking maybe $60k. Just my .02 cents.

Didn’t someone here see it and say it’s similar to Audi Suzuka Grey? That is a really nice color.. Almost like a nardo grey, white, and silver metallic mixed together:

Still not convinced... why depend on the customer maxing out options to make money? Start will a profitable price and then take the gravy as it comes. Porsche does.

Take it fwiw, but I just got back from a service appointment and was chatting with my advisor about the CS, he said to expect mid-60s.

Should be interesting to see how this pans out.

There will be another ~$10k+ in options. Most of which are parts bin. BMW will make out like a bandit. Never said wasn’t going to be profitable at msrp. They are using an engine, that has paid off R&D costs long ago and going to charge at least another 10%. They are in the green either way.

But I think Porsche makes the majority of their profit from the options - if I remember correctly, the average P-car has around 20K of options on it...and I think the same article stated that they make, on average, around 20K in profit on each car.

@M3 Adjuster had the article in one of these threads, but I can't remember which one.

My plan is to go low options. If history has tough me anything, it's that manual, no sunroof cars are worth more down the road, even though they have lower MSRP. Sure there are probably some options that would be worth while and increase the value, but for the most part the stripper cars is what guys want, once these cars become 7+ years old, because track guys want them.
