That is also what I am hoping for,to actually get some official info from BMW regarding the M2.Maybe there will be some info when they show the 3 series LCI to the press tomorrow. It would be great to get some actual specs from BMW instead of info on the forum that might be true.

Depending on the weight, power to weight ratio difference could be more sigificant.

In my opinion, considering the m235i's whole package, I wouldn't say that power is its limiting factor, performance wise. With the factory claimed 322bhp it already easily breaks traction on lower gears, which makes it struggle to get a good launch on drag races as well as to accelerate out of slower corners. Not to mention, the springs and dampers are too soft, meaning that the body control is more focused on regular driving than actual spirited driving.

Considering that the M2 will be lighter, will have a better suspension (firmer and tighter) setup, wider tyres and a proper LSD, that alone would make it reasonably quicker than the m235i on both track and drag strip. Add in those 40hp and the performance difference will be substantial.

See this thread for M240i hp numbers
http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1119669

So, 32kw(42hp) difference. Why would anyone be upset about it?
The difference between E82 135i and 1M was 25kw(34hp). The difference between E82 135is and 1M was even smaller at just 15hp.

I didn't really want to make t a comparison to the M235i or the M240i because I knew it would stray from the point. Which is I believe IMHO 365hp in the M2 just doesn't cut it. Unless it's significantly lighter it's just disappointing. And come on to those that think it will be significantly lighter. This is BMW we are talking about.

To all you M235i owners. Love your car, I truly do. If BMW didn't do an M2, there's a good chance that that would have been my car BUT:

For the love of god, please stop comparing your car to the M2. If it's good enough for you, that's great that you saved money and are satisfied. But your car is NOT an M2.

135i: 300 hp, 300 ft-lbs
1M: 340 hp, 332 ft-lbs, 77 lbs lighter than a regular 1 series

Those specs look like nothing, but I dare anyone to tell me that the 135i is anywhere on the same planet as a 1M.

The same exact story with the M2, watch.

Well like always there's going to be a huge outburst of 'gosh the M2 is pointless what a fail' but like every other time, it'll die out eventually.

I'll wait for the official reveal but if I don't like what I hear, M3/4 here I come.
By the way, I drove by a SSII M4 this afternoon and suddenly I'm a huge fan!

I'd looooove to know the price. US$52k would be great. That puts it on the lower end of the M235i-M4 split.

BMW bring some beautiful metallic colors for God's sake!
Metallic Green
Bordeaux Metallic
Violet Metallic
Moonstone Metallic
Some blue-Green Metallic colors will be just beautiful.

C'mon, don't wash these cars with same bloody colors. Life is full of colors. Use your imagination!

In other news, I think it's clear how BMW is playing this now.

HP : 365
- Some thought it would be more, it's on the low side of the expected 365-375

Torque: 323 ft-lbs
-11 more than the M235i. I'd bet the M2 is lighter but still.

Colors:
4 colors. 3 shades of gray (AW, MG, BS) and a far out there Blue (LBB). Polar opposite choices, and only 4 in total.

This paired with the recent comments and speculation (that I agreed with) about the M2 not being far above the M235i in terms of hardware seem to be true.

And the limited color selection aligns with the idea that BMW is indeed planning on full production for the M2, rather than limited, but to be sure to keep (what I now think) will be a ~50k or even below 50k car from stepping on the M3 and M4 are the options like most have been saying.

I think the next thing to expect is the realization of loss in luxury compared to M3 and M4 even in areas such as the lack of LED headlights? I hope not but it's not that big of a deal, I don't need tons of luxury.

I'm just happy to hear anything about the M2 now because regularly being a passenger in my buddy's Mineral Gray M3 rather than cruising beside it makes me super anxious (and excited). Haha.
Wouldn't a limited selection of colors actually mean lower production numbers for the M2.If a manufacturer is planning on producing a new model,I would assume they would give more color options,if they are going to produce more cars.

That is exactly what BMW did with the 1M.The car was only available in three colors and it had one production year.

Meh.. Not excited about the numbers. But They're good enough for fun times. Even more fun if they trim the weight enough. I am sure the driving dynamics will be worth it over a 235i. I could live with the numbers. I would have liked at least a little more TQ in an ideal world.. The real deciding factor will be how much they charge for these numbers. (Yes I am aware there is much more to it than HP/TQ) I am sure there are plenty willing to pay whatever they feel like charging... but as I have other options, the price for what is being offered will be a consideration.

As for the colors however... Looks like I will have to wait and see if they release more options later. I'd like a Red or a Green. As much as I like white & Black... I am just kind of tired of seeing black/white. And... as beautiful as a clean black car may be.. a clean black car rarely exists for more than a moment. Do not like the blue they are offering in the slightest, and grey has rarely ever excited me.

Very happy to hear some sort of update/news finally though! I will be waiting for more. Particularly interested in how many production years this could potentially see? I am certain at this point, that I wouldn't be in on the 1st year. But I'd like to know how much time they'd be available.

There is no "Individual". The plant where the M2 will be produced is not set up for Individual.
What a joke. It seems that BMW wanted this car to flop, to entice people to just spend the extra $15k-$20k and get the M3/4. Atleast I won't have to fight for a slot now, since none of these colors are too salivating.
