The Next Car
Hello all,
I've been an M2 owner for a year now and I absolutely love the car, makes me smile more then my girlfriend does tbh, but can't help but look to the future, I am 25 this year and my company is doing well, I don't think I will stay with the BMW brand as I don't know what could possibly satisfy me more? In a realistic sense I am looking to buy a Porsche GT4 most likely the 981, even though the new one is rumoured to have a naturally aspirated engine also, something about the 981 which just looks amazing. Of course the Porsche GT3 is the dream, but I don't want all my money to go into it plus at 27 still young and have aspirations to travel!. Don't get me wrong I love BMW as a brand for me it's one of the best but I couldn't see myself upgrading to an M4 M2C M5,M8 and so on. But just out of interest what are you as owners aiming for next? will you stick with BMW? Or move on?. I for one with all these new emission laws want a naturally aspirated car next at all cost!. |

I'm not even in an M2 yet, but I am planning my next car, which will most likely be an M2C.
Unless the new Supra comes in a manual...

I keep my cars for a long time. So who knows what will be available in eight to ten years. Our cars could all be dinosaurs with most cars being electric.

A GT4 (at least in the USA) is double the cost of the M2 and the GT4 or GT3 are cars designed for the track so they are what I would call a compromise car in that you cannot really daily drive them like an M2. My next car will likely be a GT3 BTW, I spent 45 mins driving one at the Porsche Experience Center and fell in love but it won't be a daily for me it will be primarily a track car. I will keep my M2 long term because I think it is a special car and a tremendous value. I don't see an M4 etc as an upgrade for my usage but they are great cars in their own right. My ideal garage is my M2 for daily and occasional track usage, a GT3 primarily for track usage and perhaps a quick drive to the mountains and an older BMW for a project car probably an E46 M3 if I can find one for a decent price that doesn't have the dreaded SMG.

oh i agree, it won't be a daily, my daily is my work car, because even though i love the noisy M2 with mine having a sport cat and full exhaust system AST suspension and noisy brakes, in a way i love driving my work car its so quiet and relaxing plus during the week i don't have time to drive anywhere nice so the car would be for weekend and track use!. my daily btw its a Skoda VRS Diesel, Skoda's in Czech are actually really good cars, its a VW GTD basically. i'd keep the M2 as a daily but like i said i have no time to drive anywhere in the week and i'd feel bad leaving the M2 at home at weekends. Plus i do a lot of miles for work. |

I’m a fair bit older than you, and have had many BMWs, including a couple of 2002s, E30 M3, E36 M3, E39 M5, E46 M3, and several others in between. I stayed away for many years because the interior styling got all weird, but I came back for an M2 to drive for a few months until my Competition arrives, which will hold me over until my GT3 allocation comes up.
Prior to the current M2, my last BMW was a 2002 E46 M3 I got rid of in 2004 for a 993 Turbo. That led to a 997.1 GT3 RS, then a 997.1 Turbo, then a 997.2 Turbo S. Since I started driving Porsches, there was no BMW that even remotely interested me except for the M2. BMWs are okay, but not spectacular in any respect, which I find a shame because it was the brand that got me into cars, which I then turned into a career. I owe a lot to the brand for what it was decades ago. In my option, go to Porsche and don’t look back. They’re spendy, but worth it. Be sure to drive a 911 before committing to a Cayman. |

Probably. I kept my E36 M3 for 11 years after going FBO and making it a full Dinan car.. After 11 years, I got tired of changing the leaky valve cover gasket due to pressure build up from the PCV system which wasnt designed to handle forced induction in that car; then I kept my 135i msport for 7 years until I bought my LCI M2. Probably hang on to this one for awhile too, although Im allowing my head to be turned by such new entries as the Alfa Quadrifoglio Cpe which is touted to have 640 hp in dual gas and electric hybrid situation. So many temptations out there... Oh Boy ....

Either the 2019 Supra or a 2015-2016 Cayman GTS. BMW's losing its way, making cars heavier and adding power while sacrificing dynamics.
I have a 2018 M2 LCI and love it btw. |

Don't think the Supra will be manual. Sorry man. Mine over the next 3 years then 2 more for hr Porsche. And never getting rid of any of them. One of the worst things I have done was to trade in my 07 Audi RS4 for Yukon XL during a father life crisis. Subaru STI 2020 — hybrid, AWD. Great winter car—-> my currentN55 fitted with dinan parts and ohlins—> MX-5 2019 —>Porsche GT4.

But you never know... And I too am looking forward to seeing what Subie does with the 2020 STI. The concept looks great, but so did the concept of the current version of the WRX, and they totally dropped the ball and gave the world the boring-looking ugly turd that is the current WRX, so I have low hopes for the STI. Which brings me to the M2C as the only real viable performance option in a price range I am willing to consider, being that MT is an absolute must for me while I can still get them (which is why Audi, Merc, and all the others have nothing that interests me). If all that fails, fuck it - I'll just go Mustang GT with perf pack and Roush and still save a few bucks.

An M5 is not an upgrade over an M2. They are different types of cars. You are thinking of your car as a status symbol is my take. Good luck.

krizze I have lately considered changing cars a lot too but tbh there's not that much on the market right now
I considered a GT4 but at that price point I might as well go all in on a used Lamborghini/Ferrari which is something I want to postpone for a later age M2 is a damn nice looking car and albeit all of it's shortfalls there's really nothing as complete like it on the market |

so i think you've got it wrong, anyhow i'm not buying cars for status, i couldn't care less what anyone thinks about what i drive, i drive it because i like it. hence why i will buy a GT4 despite it being less practical then the M2 because i don't care about others. im buying it to please myself. |
