Track use only? I don't think so

Well, they said that they couldn't reproduce it. I guess I'll have to record it and haul it back over there another time.

It's still awesome though.

I was able to record the vibration and rattle and posted it to YouTube. I'm sending this to my SA right now. They're going to need to sort this out. It's not acceptable to me.

Quick update. So the service techs think the issue is with two of the CF tips not being riveting to the inner tube correctly. The post that's used to attached the tip to the exhaust is touching the out CF wrap on two of them whereas the other two are perfectly centered. They've ordered new ones which I'll have installed Friday afternoon. Will report back the progress.

Another update...two tips replaced and the vibration is still there. Back to the drawing board.

Another update... A BMW rep was at my local dealer today so I dropped the car off so they could reproduce the cold start vibration/rattle with them there. They ended up taking their own photos and videos and are opening a case with R&D to try to figure this out.

Great story and great brother! Other than the vibration issue or you happy with the MPE? In comfort mode does it drone at all on the highway? I'm considering one myself.

I love it. There's is a drone around the 3K RPM range, but I don't hear really any drone cruising down the highway. I also installed the ASD delete harness which makes a huge difference. Must quieter inside the cabin and I don't have to turn the radio all the way up to hear it.

Reached out to my dealer a couple of weeks ago and there's still no progress on a fix. From the Tech Support Engineer: "I have contacted both the accessory group and product engineer. Both have informed me that Germany is aware of the issue and are working on a correction but cannot give a time line for the correction. I would suspect it will take several several months to get an answer."

When i bought my M2 3 wks ago, i had a 2017 M2 pre-lci with a MPE in the showroom that my vendor showed me. It did this exact same anoying rattle and said that all the MPE exhaust did the same sound.

That turned me off from that option

I had aftermarket tips on my m235i for a period of time and it sounded JUST like that with the reverberating noise, so I went back to OEM tips.

Have you tried removing the tips entirely for a couple of days to see if the noise still happens? It may look funny for a couple of days but you may be able to narrow down if it is the tips causing the noise.

It's the exhaust vibrating against the crossmember that rests underneath it, very near the midpoint of the car. It's (temporarily) resolved by tightening up the metal clamp that connects the M Performance Exhaust to the car's original pipe, where the original pipe had to be cut. The clamp loosens just a bit, and allows the original exhaust and the MPE pipe to separate just a tiny amount, causing a very slight sag that hits the crossmember under the exhaust during the cold start routine.

You can tighten up that clamp again at the dealer, but the problem will eventually return. It's a design flaw, but one that can be lived with.
