N55 Best Upgraded Turbo/Intercooler Option?
Hi everyone,
I know there are various forums on this topic and discussions often go on and continuely change based on new parts/findings so I wanted to ask this question again as we near the end of 2023. As of right now, what are the best options for upgrading your turbo and your intercooler for an upgraded turbo setup? I personally wouldn’t want a top mount turbo, for example. I’d like to do a turbo swap and keep my high flow cat. Personally, I’m considering pausing my G80 M3 order and upgrading my turbo and intercooler. I’m not sure just yet and I’d like to see what options are best and what they’d cost. I’m currently around 430whp/440wtq and it’s a blast to drive but sometimes I get that urge to get to the 500whp club and experience what that would be like.

This was on the catless downpipe. I’ve switched to a high flow cat and very slightly detuned it. It was with E45 but I also do a full tank nowadays instead. I noticed a significant difference.
It’s FBO, Dorch stage 2, HJS 300 DP, Wagner Evo Comp II (I’d probably change this with the new turbo). The last graph was the E45 protune. I did ask for a track friendly set up so I think it isn’t tuned as aggressively as it could be. ThreeStripes

Sick. Gives me hope I’ll see another 15-20whp/wtq over that with the Pure500 on E.
Currently the Wagner Evo3 or the VRSF Race intercooler are top of the heap from what I gather. For turbos, Bend Cal who I respect currently recommends Mosselman over Pure. Frankenturbo F55 would be another solid option for 500whp. Know a guy selling a brand new Frankenturbo F55 option for 2g if that’s of any interest. |

I heard the Evo 3 had some downsides because it was too big? I’ll check out Mosselman!

Get the MAD race intercooler + the MAD charge pipe. One of the best on the market.
its already very reasonably priced and its even better this weekend with the black Friday sale. As for the turbos, it highly depends on your power goals, i like Pure Turbo the most as i find them the most reliable with the best customer support

Do you sell the Pure 750 without a stock turbo deposit?

AmuroRay which set up would you recommend? For the turbo/intercooler.

AmuroRay it would be under 550whp to try to keep it safe.
More or less just to have some extra juice for my daily but possibly an additional map for track usage with less power. I would be using either E45 or a full tank for the majority of time. So the first run was my BM3 pump gas. Second was stock software, third was the pump gas protune, fourth was the E45 mix and fifth was the E45 pro tune. Again, I did ask for a conservative track ready tune just to keep it safe. I am also on the Wagner Evo Comp II which isn’t the strongest option. When I saw another M2 with the same mods and a pure turbo, it put 500whp easy to 7k. The graph looked like an NA M3 up until the last inch.

Small detail but the 750 doesn’t require a core trade. Price on their site is without core.

If you are aiming >550whp ish, you need a bigger turbo(low end lag for sure). Above 600whp, extra fueling mods, LPFP+EKP and upgraded injectors to run E. There are many good choices for big turbos, if lag is not a concern. Small turbo to be 500whp, fast like stock spool, only TTE460 and Shuenk N55+. (no data on Pure500) I'm on the route to 500whp+ too. My N55+ will arrive and it will get installed next week. My plan is to log with OTS stage2+ E30 maps and dyno, then get custom tune/log/dyno. I probably will create a post to record all the process. In the Shuenk R&D facebook group, there is a M235 already pushing N55+ to mid 550whp range with DS2 only running E70 and Doug from Shuenk just bought a used m235 ready for N55+ turbo test. I guess a lot of things are happening on Dec. plus I will be tuning for "safe" street at the same time. Last edited by ericlr1225; 11-26-2023 at 06:26 PM.. |

You can do a solid 450whp+ on a PS2 with pump gas, which I believe is more than reasonable. Once you start getting to more than 30% blends, or even talking full e85, you’re just better off with a bigger turbo that can produce the power with less stress.
That’s just my opinion of course. If you’re just street driving it, there are plenty of decent spooling options to choose from - a good Intercooler like the VRSF, MAD Race, are great options as well. |

I think the BOV option they provide is a good choice with the turbo? And a LPFP upgrade as well? My goal would be to stay under 550whp. 520-540whp would be perfect for city driving and whatever it can handle on the track or on 91 I’ll happily take.

Does anyone have any information on the Mosselman turbo?
Any specs on the turbo itself or if you’re able to buy one without sending in your core?
