Yes, Adaptive LED is available on most BMW's. The 2 series is said to be getting this with the LCI, which is due in 2018. This should include the M2 too.

I think it's already available...in MY17 at least. This from the USA 2017 M2 ordering guide: Option 524 Adaptive light control

No, only Xenon adaptive headlights are available, which only turn in when steering but dont have the same illumination, nor do they adapt to traffic as the Adaptive LED's do.

Don't seem to be illegal in the US at least, as they are available on most cars as an option or even standard on 6/7 series.

The Xenon adaptives are.

The LED adaptives are not - they're being treated the same as Audi's Matrix LEDs and are current not allowed on roads.

ok, now i start feeling like a smartass...
your source seem to be outdated since on bmwusa.com both "Xenon Adaptive Headlights" (comes even standard on M235i and M2) as well as "Adaptive Full LED Lights" are available.
So nothing illegal!

now btt^^

You're more then welcome to bring it up with the NHSTA. Document dated August 2015 for developing regulations to make adaptive headlights legal.

The LED ones you mention are the same function as Xenon - they turn as you turn the car. It does not have any of the traffic-adapting capabilities that allow for dimming of LED elements, matrix beams, etc.

Adaptive Driving Beam Headlighting System Glare Assessment

PS: the document is worth a skim just to see how dumb NA regulators can be sometimes. Europe and ROW have had these for years.

The only "adaptive" functionality in the US is self leveling and adjusting based on turning. The true "adaptive" tech in the videos is only available in Europe and is coded out in the US car for legal reasons (outdated laws).

Correct. My post above has a link to the latest document produced by the NHSTA.

I wonder if you can code the adaptive lights back on for the cars that have it...

Good stuff. I have the build sheet for my M2 and it does shows the decoding for the high beams (code 5AP). Once I have my car in a few weeks I will code it back and see what happens.
