?? The area responsible for all the orange rust on newly cleaned alloys comes from the rotors.

Some of it does but it is not as clear cut as that. One can manage the rotor drip by simply using and air gun to them, but the areas that this chap, and I have painted are unreachable and hold/store lots of rusty orange water - certainly in the U.K. where we have lots of rain!

Then simply pack this area with grease, job done!

I am a native, I know it rains here 😄

Air gun or hot air dryer will only blast off water from the front of rotor. You’re still getting water / rust marks from in the vanes / rear of rotor way more than this area that can only seal out past the badge!

All depends on your detailing skills and levels of dedication I guess. If you are happy with what you do then that is all that matters I guess.

Had to get them in a shop on 4 poster and two guys with heavy mallets on a block of wood while the other rotated slowly. Took 1 hour of hard labour to get 4 wheels off. The heat obviously softens the paint and welds to the wheel.
Ever try to take off a wheel with a rusty hub?
I use to be partners at a German auto shop and try to take of some of these wheels, especially BMWs'. I kn ow exactly what you mean taking an hour to get off wheels. And, God help you if you had steel hubs on steel rotors.

There are no issues here but thanks.

Anti seize on the hub during wheel installation equals no issue on removal and no rust. That said I too would be a little nervous on the hub fitment after applying paint to the hub surface.

Can't recall what the wheel to hub tolerance is off the top of my head, but adding paint will exceed it as it is fairly tight. Masking the mating surface prior to painting would have been prudent and then you could have the best of both worlds. Paint where the non contact areas may rust and a small area of anti-seize circumferentially around the mating surfaces. Seems like a good compromise and would adhere closer to the intended design of the fitament.

Never underestimate those who are around you, even the guy sweeping the floor.

Actually, I oversaw a metrology lab at one point in my career and more recently performed outside inspection sourcing for Rolls-Royce jet engine facility in Inidianapolis. Almost had ANSI Y14.5M memorized when I was younger and using it on a daily basis. Also worked in many investment casting foundries that produce jet engine components, both structural and high pressure turbine made from inconel, cobalt, and titanium alloys. Worked with many machinists on tooling and fixturing and can set-up/operate a variety of equipment myself.

Now that you have my partial resume, please stop being so defensive, this is not a personal attack on your wisdom or manhood. The fact is three folks suggested ideas that were consistent with normal industry methods of addressing your concern. Part of your idea had merit which was acknowledged.

Please proceed and enjoy your project and your M2.
