Yes, most of the stuff is superficial and not a great value. Coil over suspension, and exhaust is about all I would care for. Manual seats in theory, but rather just gets some Recaro Sportsters, which would probably save the 60 lbs right there.

So buy a stock M2, install coil overs, Recaro Seats and sport muffler and save yourself $5k, plus buy the car in the color of your liking instead.
Yup, that's good ole marketing for ya.

How to BS your customers legally, while maximizing profits...

Usually some catchy name goes along with it, like, "M2 Performance Edition."

In this case, it's not that bad... Just getting a package deal for a little less. Honestly, if they never even gave it a name, people would have not batted an eye.

Jalopnik had an article on this and everyone is bashing BMW (like Jalopnik always does so they can remain cool, get clicks, and appease their financially-deprived readers, many of whom can't afford a new BMW). That website is not even readable anymore. It's just one big tabloid nowadays.

Considering the M2 is already catering to the enthusiast market, the M2 PE is catering to a much smaller niche (150 people only) of the enthusiast market.

I'm with you norMcal - I don't see a point in this car when you get more for your money with a standard M2 and buying extras after.

Just another way for the dealerships to make an extra $25K per car?

Next year there will be another "special" model with some "special" bolt-on parts or the standard car will have all of these installed.

I agree with you on the 991. it's a GT car now. Cayman GTS is probably the best bit for you if not the GT4.

sounds like to me BMW have some overstock of M Performance parts they want to get rid of. It's pretty lame but i'm sure they will have no problem getting rid of them.

Price point is everything on this car, at least for me. pass 60k i look for something else. mid 50k nothing else touches the straight out of the box M2. def not interested in this "Limited Edition" one.

Ok I think nine pages has exhausted the issue from every conceivable angle. Thank you to all the marketing experts here. Here's how this works, even if you want this car, with only 150 units and US only, you can't have one so repeatedly stating "no thanks" is moot. If you are one of the rare few that could access one but don't like it or want it it's very simple, don't buy it.

The M performance parts, especially the suspension, are pretty epic. Next level and fine tuned.

This car will be a serious collector item down the road, in fact its the only limited M2 edition released. at 60K+ its a bargain, for the dollar best car buy out there.

For now. BMW will most likely offer something similar to the LCI M2.

No it won't. If it had stuff specific to the car like different body, suspension tuning other cool stuff, specific wheels, etc then maybe. It's just a standard M2. The CS will be the car to collect. The really different models within a model line will be the cars to have no mater the price. The performance edition M2 is no different than a different version of a Corvette. Camaro, M3 Limerock edition (even less of those and no one wants them). Now compare a Shelby GT350R to a regular GT350 and thats how you do a special edition that will hold its value.

I am not saying the upcoming special M2 which will be probably priced at 70K and by the time the dealer gets it 90 to you is not gonna be valuable....I agree that will be the most valuable m2..but for 61K you get a collectors edition of 150...its a super deal

It's not a collector edition. Its just a different optioned M2 like the rest of the world has. If it was a special color then you might be able to call it a special edition.

This is a good deal for people who want some of the things that this car offers. That's it.

It is no way a collector edition.

Its true but a collectors car for the future, you see when cars are electric and awd with no manuals. You can buy this a RWD, Small Coupe, With A Manual.

I was offered this car from a texas dealership today morning which is getting one with DCT having March production and May delivery. They have it at MSRP + TT&L. I was the 5th person that it was offered to. The other 4 were 3 customers on the M2 wait list and 1 customer who is #1 on the M2 CS/CSL wait list.

That's 5 people who passed on it. It might technically be a collectible but it does not look like too many people even want it. Not sure why this would be sought after in a few years when there would be an M2 CS and maybe an M2 GTS/CSL as well.

Thing to note here is that, it is an MSRP dealership. 5 people passed on this car at MSRP. I am sure they'll sell it relatively easily but it just shows that the reception for this car is lukewarm at best.

My opinion: it's because the price of the "standard" M2 is one of it's biggest selling points. The price of the Performance Edition M2 butts it right up against the price of a new M3 and close to that of an M4. At that price, I'd buy an M3.
