Trade in price, possible sale?

BIMMERPOST / Classifieds
Asking Price:
USD 40,000.00

Or Best Offer

Item Interest
Hello, Hope this is allowed. I have a 2016 LLB, manual, Dinan tuned M2 with all of the M performance carbon, Mperf exhaust, full PPF, Ceramic coating, Roof wrapped in gloss black, BMW roof rack. Car has 46,xxx miles on it. I am negotiating on a certified 2024 M2 that is local and the dealer is really playing hard ball on the trade in. KBB shows a max trade in of $35,000, dealer says $32,000. Then I found out from one of the sales guys that a tech is going to buy it when traded in. I feel like I am getting the run around. What is a realistic trade in value? I know that I would get more if I was patient and sold it on here, would it be worth close to $40 or more? There is such a large swing on cars.com that I don't know what to believe. Pic for reference!
Thanks in advance.

The dealer’s offer is right at average KBB trade in value, which is pretty standard. They aren’t going to give you max value, a lot of them won’t even touch the low end of KBB, especially in this car market. Private party value is 35.5 - 40.5k. If you wanted to go through the hassle of a private sale, you’d probably get around 36-37k in my opinion. But keep in mind the tax advantage of trading in a car, in most states you only pay tax on the difference between the new car price and trade in value, which can amount to several thousand dollars, and a lot less headache.

Thanks! The taxes are a good point. Seems like it would be just about even money wise after taxes and less hassle.

$36k to $39k retail, trade in $32k to $35k seems right. Take off the MPE, trade in stock. Sell the MPE for $1200 to make up the gap. Good luck.
