M1: Sport Drivetrain / Comfort Steering
M2: Sport+ Drivetrain / Comfort Steering I go into M1 as soon as I start the car, mainly to switch steering back to "Comfort". I'm still easy on it until the engine warms up. That's the mode I drive with, 95% of the time. I'm in M2 the other 5% of the time, when on a twisty canyon road. I still can't believe BMW's unchangeable default is "Comfort" drivetrain mode with "Sport" steering mode. It's undoubtedly the worst configuration.

Future readers: stop here. This is where the thread turns into trash. Enjoy the 3 pages that we got about driving modes.

I agree. Let's stop this thread jacking. I started this thread about drive modes. Let's keep on topic.

I've enjoyed the throttle response from Sport for every day driving thus far. I'll drive in comfort sometimes if I'm just cruising on the freeway, and Sport+ for canyon carving

I concur. I wish Comfort was default steering, or if nothing else, leave it in the last mode when the car was shut off - then everybody could be happy.

What do you some of you guys mean by everything off?
Anyway I actually like to drive in the standard settings when the car starts up, I find comfort engine mode has more “NA” feel when I rev it out. |

I drive my car in its start up comfort modes till the temp gauge hits the first line. M1 sport till fully warm. If the car is warm then M2 sport+ when I wanna get frisky, one of the neighborhood kids wants to hear the burbles, or someone would like a visit to Mexico.
I like DSC off so both M buttons are set that way with rev matching off. I will hit MDM if I feel lazy though.

On the CS, sport steering (I detest overly light 80s American one finger steering as many of my early cars had no power steering at all), comfort suspension (it's a misnomer as it really means roads with bumps), and efficient power mode. Sometimes sport but never Sport+ as the throttle becomes binary. Efficient gives a lot more throttle modulation and some crazy turbo rush. Sport is a bit more even.

I save sport + for when I want a sense of occasion, since the car is my daily. Sport around town, comfort on the freeway- I don’t mind ASD but it’s annoying at 3k rpm just droning at you.
I wish MDM was sport throttle instead of comfort- I’d probably use it a lot more. It feels a little neutered (and the burbles can be a little much) though it is handy in snow. Ideally Sport+ would be burble mode for me. Holy grail setup would be comfort steering, sport throttle, traction control off/dsc on. But alas. |

With my custom Stage 2 tune Sport+ mode is Sport throttle, so I have same throttle mapping whether Sport(full traction), Sport+(MDM) or Traction OFF. Have burbles OFF and Rev Match On for Traction off. Recently got the CS steering & the Sport setting is noticeably lighter than previous and a lot more lively. I much prefer it, except for engine warm up & wet/dangerous conditions I'm always in Sport+ so have to use the Sport steering. I did try the GTS steering and it was very heavy and dead feeling. |
