Here's a video last year, chasing some Golfs. Skill level varies, and most were modified. So don't take it too seriously. The black GTi had upgraded Turbo (K04 maybe?), north of 400WHP hence the speed in the straights. But if you listen carefully, there were a few times I did lift early to keep a safe distance as this was a non competitive lapping day. I had no trouble passing most of the stock Rs and the track was partially damp on a 10C cold day. The RS3 will be a better comparison to the M2 IMO. Should have some videos of that soon, my neighbor's is coming in July. |

Clean! And I like the euro tails. But we're talking about the MKVII, not the MKVI.

According to German carmag Sportauto, their Nordschleife laptimes of the M2's competition( i.e Civic R, Golf R, Seat Leon Cupra R whatever the name is, Megane RS 275 whatever the name is, RS3 etc etc) don't come even close to the manufacturer's claims
Only M2 came close to 7:58 with 8:01 on a partially 'wet' track. IRL on the Ring M2 easily can keep up with the 'faster' competition, everything being equal( time/temp/circumstances AND driver) So the competition's numbers irl are just not so great instead of the M2's numbers. Cheers Robin |

Interesting to see some people thinking the M2 is not quick in a straight line.
Makes you wonder, compared to what? Sure, I would not complain if it had another 50whp but I would still not consider a quarter mile time of 12.5s to be slow considering rwd, 370hp and the weight of the car. Br |

Bottom line is, you cannot even begin to compare an M2 with civics golfs seats and even audis, i mean i don't mean to sound Biased BUT JUST LOOK AT IT!. i don't believe for one minute that an M2 put in the hands of a racing driver with no ties to BMW would beat the Type R's time with ease.
just my 2 cents. |

M2 is not allowed to be faster on the ring of marketing reasons.
Can't be faster than big brother. Mount M Performance Chassie or sim and you will see other times.

Civic needs to be tested yet, no info available. But I bet it's way worse than expected. I'll keep you informed
Quote:
In the tests there was a (BMW claimed) 7:52 in it but that laptime was way too close to M3/4 territory, 7:58 is a reasonable 'easily reproducable' time on a dry and empty Nordschleife (by a good semi pro driver) according to BMW. Hence Gebhard doing 8:01 on partially moist asphalt. The M2's rear suspension is pretty hard, but softened it would give more traction and this would also benefit the laptime by a few seconds. But on a normal(not floaty like the NS) track, M2's chassis incl LSD is stock already 'the best you can get' (brakepads aside) vs the competition. Cheers Robin |

I doubt anyone on this forum can even get below a 9 minute run in a m2, so why bother bench racing?
