I feel really stupid because I had no idea a moonroof affected the headroom, but I've never thought about it, nor have I been in two models of the same car to compare the difference.

So continuing my train of ignorance, in the M2 specifically, does this translate into increased headroom in the rear, or is it a negligible difference? I have a moonroof in my M235 and my Rottweiler enjoys it when she rides in the back. This is the one option I regretted not being able to get on my MY17 M2 that's currently in production. Will there be any noticeable difference in room for her without the option?

If you're wondering, putting a 120 lb Rott in these coupes *is* a fun and interesting experience.

Lucky Rotty! I believe your headroom with a MY '18 M2 equipped with moonroof should be the same as with your M235i equipped with moonroof. Without the moonroof in an M2, I believe there should be around 1- 1.5" more headroom.

When he drives it, no seat adjustments are required, and his head just grazes the headliner. The diagrams in the attached post show the headroom in the M2 is about 2.2" greater than in the 1M, which I presume to be similar to what I have in my 135i but for the fact that the 1M had no moonroof. My 135i would have even less headroom then the 1M diagram shows, obviously, because it does have a moonroof.. . I'm hoping this analysis holds up supporting my moonroof order!

Here are the specs for 135i which I believe only comes moonroof equipped.. strangely it shows the same headroom as the spec for the 1M :

Yes, it also depends on how upright you have the backrest etc.
I just wanted to warn people that it might be an issue and always try before you buy.

I specially ordered my M235 without a moonroof. I didn't want the weight, I wanted more rigid and rattle free interior (moonroof rattles are common in M235s), risk long term risk of repairs, and most importantly, I wanted the head room. I'm 6' 2" and sit at the lowest setting. In the M235 I test drove with a moonroof, I had less than an inch of headroom between my standard-white-dude hair cut and the roof.

You'll lose about 1-1 1/2 inches with the moonroof.

I have 2 3/4" between headliner and top of my helmet in my 228. I have manual seats set at lowest position, and I am 5' 11". I have heard power seats are a bit higher. I think you will have plenty of room for a helmet.

I am 5"11', I currently drive the M255i with moonroof and about to order the M2 with one too.
In my normal sitting position I have no issue with touching or getting close to the roof (seat memory bank 1). When I do autocross I have to lower my seat to almost the lowest position with the helmet but it works out fine and it's comfortable (seat memory bank 2).

I'm 6'1" and have MY2017 M2 with a moonroof ((Canadian's could order this). No headroom issues at all (there again, my hair is thinning... ).
