M-performance *coilovers*

The SEMA post reveals something absolutely incredible - the M-performance suspension upgrade for the M2 is a *coilover*!! I'm shocked that there's not a single discussion of coilovers in the SEMA thread (barring the original post) - just people complaining that M-performance goodies are not part of the standard package.

A BMW factory adjustable coilover - isn't this a first for an M car?

All M Performance suspensions have been coilovers by definition (so is the stock setup). But the adjustability is new and welcomed.

Pending price, I might have these ordered with my car. I mean, I was going to get coilovers anyways. Hopefully they can keep the price fair, which isn't normal for the BMW world of parts.

I think it is a first too.

Probably explains the a couple of the test mules riding lower than stock with the MP suspension reducing ride height by up-to 25mm.

Correct me if I'm wrong or not, but he benefit is likely to best felt on the track so standard M suspension, it's already heavily borrowed from the M3/4, will be more than suitable for the Average Joe?

I'd hate to think of the Aussie tax on these anyway....

I think its freaking EPIC that they are now adjustable!!!
Really want this, scared of the costing.
This means its most likely shorter shocks, shorter springs, which means it would be different from the usual offer of just springs.

Track ready!!!

Actually no. It uses the same shocks. Look in the M4 thread, there's more info on it. This is more or less KW H.A.S system

If you look at the pictures the M2 kit looks different so maybe it is a new parts there?

The one on the right?

I still think the most important piece in that whole cabinet is still the trunk spoiler

Yes, the M2 MPS (to the left) is a totally new unit compared to the sleeve for the M4. So it should be better in my opinion and not a compromise as the M4 kit is.

Oh I see, woops! What a confusing display. I thought that entire cabinet was for 2ers only, didn't see the writing on the bottom right.

I wonder if the M2 unit would fit on a passive suspension M3/4?

I stand corrected!

As much time he spends on here it would be strange he does not get an M2 at the end!

Super expensive though as you have to buy them as after market parts.

The more MP parts the better! I think they are starting to listen to enthusiasts but have limited budget based on the expected small market. I think they will continue to release more parts as time goes. I love the car size but need to get the weight down somehow. If they offer better seats things would get much more interesting.

Are they upgrades or just color changes? I remember seeing these choices pop up a few years ago for the 1 and it was $595. They were NOT upgraded brakes, just a alternate color choice. I'd pay $595.

Q: What are the details of the M2 M Performance Suspension?
A: It is a non-adaptive, 2-way adjustable (rebound and damping) full coilover kit with custom strut and springs, manufactured by KW to BMW M's specs. It's also been tested on a four post rig and at the Nurburgring. Lowering range drops the car anywhere from 5mm to 25mm.

The suspension's finish has been specially treated to a black chrome finish to prevent corrosion and rust. The shape of the springs prevents any side loads from being transferred to the dampers, increasing its long term durability. The suspension kit will come with recommended settings for street use and select tracks in the US when the product is launched.
So the M2 uses BMW-spec KW coilovers (on par with V3 I guess since they've got adjustable rebound and damping) while the M3 uses a slightly changed KW HAS system.

I like that a lot. This part makes the most sense out of all M Performance parts - not some tacky winglets and CF everything.

Just color, they are identical otherwise. The whole kit with discs for non M cars is a bit under 2k USD so way too much for just the color. As an option for non M cars you can get the blue brakes for around $595 from the factory, but yellow, red and orange is only available as standalone kits and not from factory.

If you go for differently colored calipers, you may as well go for the brake pads.
