And it's not really that the M2 did anything wrong, it's more like I'm really falling for the way these older BMW's (E36 M3) drive. And no, I'm not complaining about stupid things people love to do lately about mirrors and seats and no CF roof

Looks: Tie
Space: F80. Would be nice to retire the E36 and make the F80 the DD. Would be stupid not to when you are paying all this money. The extra space and doors could come in handy
Engine: S55
Nimble/Fun: M2. But I already have an E36, so what am I really bringing to the table with the M2?
Interior: F80. But just because I really wanted cloth seats.
Availability: Moot point for me. Because the F80 is much more expensive, I'd have to hold off until at least Summer 2016. But most people aren't going to be able to get an M2 until then anyway, so tie.
Weight: Tie. This is the part that bugs me a little. With how I'd option out the F80, they'd pretty much weigh the same

Having said all this, the M2 is definitely still on the table and I'll definitely be on this forum for a while. What would absolutely bring me back would be:
1) If I can't afford an F80
2) The reviews come out and say this is the second coming of the E30 M3. It has to be THAT good

Either way, this is currently what I'm aiming for :

I agree on the cloth seats, but you could easily have an upholstery shop do the center of the seat in alcantera for under 1000.

Problem with that is you still have the regular m235i seats. These seats do not even look like they can hold the driver in place during cornering. The bottom bolsters look flat.

I would rather buy cloth e92 m3 seats. But I would want to check which seat weighs more. I would not want to add more weigh.

Would you really have your seats reupholstered on a brand new BMW with a warranty still? I know I wouldn't.

You really need to go sit in a regular 2er with sports seats. It's just fine. People are bitching about seats they've probably never sat in. I had 0 problem with them. It's not like you are sitting on milk crates

Sure, the seats on the M3/4 "look" cooler, but they both get the job done.

Have a feeling in the US it will be awhile before M2 consumers have these readily available for purchase. By that time a slightly used M4 seems like it would be a more attractive purchase IMO.

Recently rented an M4 via BMW on demand in Munich and own a 2er with sport seats. The F8x seats look very nice, but I find the 2er ones more comfortable. I was constantly fidgeting around in the M4 trying to get situated.Would have been nice if they offered additional colors or alcantara for the M2, though.

Either way - M2 looks like the car for me

By that time I am pretty sure we will know the specs of the Competition Package for the M3/M4 also further distancing the performance of the M4 and M2.

I don't see ZCP adding much to be honest, but hope I'm wrong. I saw absolutely no need for it in the E9x M3, plus the ZCP wheels (from the GTS) look horrid anyway. Besides, I'm really set on going with passive shocks.

My new plan is to get the F80 next summer. Lease it for 3 years. If the M2 doesn't blow my socks off, I'll buy the F80 at the end of the lease. If the M2 turns out to be that good, I'll pick one of the last remaining ones before they go out of production (definitely will want an LCI). Win win.

Either way, I can't wait for the reviews to come out for the M2, especially the head to heads.

Haha, I always thought the ZCP package was the best option for the E9x M3 specifically for the wheels. They look great in my opinion. I agree about passive shocks though.

I've always thought ZCP is just a way for BMW to milk more sales. Granted, on the current M5/6, they seem totally worth it, but it is a $7000+ package.

On the E9x, you got those sweet wheels, but you could buy those separately anyway (they were heavy though, and were a pain to clean). The drop still wasn't aggressive enough and I programmed in the Euro MDM, which was more aggressive than US ZCP MDM anyway.

If anyone is concerned about whether the M2 will get a Competition Package, I wouldn't even worry. Unless they decide to drop an S55 as part of the ZCP. Then you are welcomed to riot

One of the main reasons I was drawn to the e9x M3 was because of the ZCP wheels and tad lowered suspension. I think its an awesome value, that is all I got bare bones M3 with competition package. I loved the look of the e9xM3 with these wheels, completely transformed the car IMO. Was never a fan of the 220M style M3 wheel.

ZCP with the current M4 could be a HP boost, revised steering, and lowered height.

For me getting the competition package is a no brainer.

I doubt you ordered anything.

You just put yourself on the list waiting for allocation.

If price is accurate I will be buying. I will have to save a bit as I was planning to get the M235i but I certainly want the M2 now.

I know that my local dealer has taken two pre orders for the car. They are asking $1000 to guarantee you one when it comes out and get you in line.

Yea, I'll wait and see with this one.
I ended up adding ZCP wheels, a lower drop and Euro MDM to my 2008 E92, so that wasn't a giant deal to me. Ended up ditching those ZCP wheels because they were very heavy and weren't forged (they looked stunning though).

Hi did not order anything since there is nothing in the computer to order.. Everything the dealer says up until you truly order a car and pay for it is lip service. These are car dealers we are talking about here.

My list of 6 dealers I was on a wait list that offered MSRP is now 5 since one of them called back and told me now they are doing a 10-15k price adjustment, most likely. My understanding is a couple managers there had a discussion and did some additional research and now feel like they can ream some customers for more profit. It boggles the mind someone would pay 70k for this car but hey a fool and his money are soon parted.

I'd say I am 80% in at this point. But BMW has a narrow window to fit into to get me into an M2 in the next 8 months.

There are a few considerations that could lean me towards the F80 or M235i/M240i:
1. It must be offered for ED, if not, it may be the second time in a row BMW didn't offer the car I wanted to buy for ED (135is wasn't offered for ED in 2013). In this case I may consider the M235i.
2. One of the two dealers I am high on the list for must be able to get me an allocation in the Late June/Early July timeframe to fit within the trip I will be taking to Europe.
3. If I decide to lease, it must have enough sales support that an M3 isn't a better value.
4. If my wife and I decide to have kids sooner than expected, the M3 will be a more suitable choice.

I want to be in this car at this time next year, but I have a gut feeling I wont't be able to make it a reality.

Given what you said especially starting a family, I would take the F80 with no doubt. Good luck!

This was presented to me as a 'discount' since I already deposited, and the dealer claims they will be charging $20k over MSRP for any other buyers. I'm not going to waste time spouting off about my opinion regarding the dealer's tactics/business model, but suffice it to say it's baffling to me that anyone would consider charging/paying that kind of money for an M2 given the alternatives at those price points. I am holding out hope of more US allocations, but otherwise, I'm out.
I'm curious about what dealer you went to. I'm close to you and used BMW of Alexandria. No deposit and nothing over MSRP. I was able to buy my 1M for slightly below MSRP so I have faith I won't get screwed this time either. If you want I can PM you the CA's name and phone number.
