BMW M3/M4 Side Mirror Question
Hi Guys/Girls,
Here's a question for all M2 owners: "If I can provide a solution to fit M3/M4 side mirrors to our M2's, but it will require the owners to send their stock M2 side mirrors for us to take them apart, would you do it?" Sort of like an exchange program and you probably may not be able to keep the original M2 side mirrors and also at a cost of around US$1200 for the pair. This will use mostly OEM parts (electrical, mirrors, motors, controller unit, etc...), so no functional/computer problem will be generated. How many people would be interested? The reason I asked, is because I figured out a way to do it for the F22/F87, but I'll need to spend a lot on development and creating molds... To be safe, I'll probably need like 150 sets pre-order to kick off this project. So, fire it up, let me know your thoughts/comments etc... |

If lets say we included the cost of a brand new set of oem m2 side mirrors to the cost for those who would like to keep their original set, how much would the total come out to be?

To be honest, I'd be interested in making the mirrors if I can get a preorder going with deposit... the investment needed to fabricate the mirrors cost close to 2x M2's.... that is why I am hesitant to jump in without enough commitment Last edited by Acexxon; 05-26-2017 at 06:53 PM.. |

Obv i'd much rather pay the ~$1200 you're ballparking, it's just a question of if and when you take this project on. I'm rooting for ya. I want these puppies pretty badly.

Sending in my M2 mirrors to be torn apart for parts is a no go for me. The idea of having real M3/M4 mirrors on my M2 was intriguing. But at these price points and complexity... It's not worth the trouble. I'm out.
But I wish you good luck with this new endeavor! |

I don't think you will be able to get 5% of all M2's sold to date to buy the mirrors so if your cost to set this in motion is that much it feels like a big gamble. Especially as it involves a lot of work for the buyer.
If the set was $1000 to buy outright it would be a no-brainer but at that price point and the amount of work involved I think it is a bad idea. I'm not saying this to kill your affairs or anything, I love what you did with the reflector and bought a set and would love to see this in production but I'm just giving my honest opinion. |

Thanks for the feedback . The thing with needing the OEM M2 mirrors is to utilize the electrical parts, which cannot be bought separately from BMW. There's a controller inside that communicates with the car's computer and also the motor unit that adjust the lens for you. I am very close to having 50 pre-orders here in Taiwan and I will be working closely with iND for the other quantities. iND have the capability to take things apart and put them together correctly; seeing what they done to the M2 is just spectacular. I do agree it might seem troublesome sending the OEM ones in and getting the M3/M4 style ones back, but trust me, this is the only way. Unless one is willing to pay almost triple to what I'd price for. Plus, the next owner will not complain and ask you to put the OEM ones back, cause they know the M mirrors are just so much better |

So in order to retrofit, one must use the original electrical components. That's how the Japanese Studie shop did, that's what iND did and their costs are far more than $1200 Mind you, OEM M mirrors are $2000 a pair with lens from BMW... |

Well, you could target regular F22's as well to reach your goal number

How is the F80 to F30 a direct swap and we share same mirror shape and caps as F30?

The metal piece and the plastic cover are completely different.
Plus, I believe the controller unit and wire connectors are different as well. |
