That looks really nice all that alcantara stuff. I'll definitely consider it when I get my car this summer. All we need now is the member discount eh ?

In response to your claim that attaching leather or Alcantara directly on the existing dashboard with glue would be cheaper and easier, consider the following:
  1. You would need really strong, heat resistant glue that would prevent the alcantara / leather from releasing or rippling in the summer heat.
  2. Most guys would want to be able to sell their car in an original state. The method you suggest would not allow one to do this, resulting in a lower resell value. Removing the leather / Alcantara would result in irreparable damage to the dashboard.
  3. For a very good result (OEM-Level) it would be necessary to use a special heat resistant flexible foam between the leather / Alcantara and the dashboard to prevent the stitching from rising up way too much in comparison to the rest of the surface. Which would look nasty.
  4. To apply the leather / Alcantara perfectly using glue and apply it evenly, ensuring that the stitching is still super tight and neat, it needs to be done on a workbench. Doing this inside the car, with the windscreen still there is not feasible. Or do you suggest to remove the windscreen entirely.
  5. To suggest that the method you propose would be cheaper kinda baffles us. Our experience is that a automotive upholstery workshop needs significant time to prepare the template in leather / Alcantara.
  6. How would you ensure a neat and tight fitting at the bottom of the leather / Alcantara. Our hood the leather is folded and glued on the inside (of our mould). This ensures a 100% alignment to the dashboard.
  7. Placing our dashboard hood takes no more that 10 minutes. Our upholstery department estimates your method would take as much as 5 hours, notwithstanding the appalling result.
  8. Finding the exact yarn colour is an expert task. BMW does not provide any cooperation and definitely will not provide any yarns to third parties. Which is why we have ours produced for us exclusively to match the BMW yarn exactly.
All the best,
Angela

Thanks for this, I meant that it would be cheaper to wrap only the cluster vs the entire dash. I wasn't trying to say that it's cheap and easy. It's neither.

Wow. Whatever you mentioned, they escalated it quick!

Anyhow, I did some further investigation. The gauge cluster hood is not a separate piece that can be purchased, therefore I understand why bimmermasterpieces uses there own mold. I asked if they could use an OEM mold, but BMW only sells the entire front dash. The msrp of the whole from dash is 1211. And I don't think bimmermasterpieces is going to buy this piece just for the gauge cluster hood. I suppose they could sell front dashboards all wrapped in leather/alcantara too, but lots more work involved.

Just asking again as my previous post appeared to be missed...

Is there potential forum discount for members, I'm sure there would be a lot of interest and potential business?

I am currently working with BimmerMasterpieces on getting one to the US. I will be doing a detailed install guide, reviewing the product and provide detailed pictures. Also I believe they are in the process of becoming a vender on here shortly as well. So I am sure there is more to come on

I will update everyone once it arrives.

Yes, it looks great from that angle. I wonder though how it looks from the drivers view. I would hate to install that and then see an edge where it attaches to the original dash.

Answer :

NOTHING HAS TO BE REMOVED !!

The following post from this thread contains info on the install, from what I see it's a case of loosening the instrument cluster to fit the overhanging material behind for a clean install:

- Press the Alcantara or leather casing on the existing dashboard-housing. You might have to apply a lot of pressure
- Reinstall the speedometer/Tachometer Clock

As my M2 keeps getting postponed (due end of May now ) I'm yet to try it out... I might temporarily try it on the M240i for fitment purposes however

I know what you mean metric, check their facebook gallery for close up pics. The cover has overhanging material to fold behind the instrument cluster for an OE look.

Mine arrives this week, I'll report back once installed.

I feel like several of us would be interested in these.

I'm curious as to how it installs - does it install OVER the factory gauge hood, or in replacement of the factory gauge hood?

It'll be over - it slots into the upper edge.

Unlike the 1M the instrument cluster "top" is not removable.. it's part of the dashboard (moulded).

Amazing product. Have you guys ever considered doing a full front dashboard covered in leather? Similar to what the M3-M4 offers from the factory

That's at least 5 just for the M2s. Perhaps we could get some Series folks as well?

Mine arrived this week, but only recently installed it:

I bought the Alcantara CS as I wanted it as close to the 1M as possible.

I took pics and made an install guide to help others out:

Thanks to BM, absolutely love it!

Sounds like you do not need to remove the steering wheel, if that is the case that's another incentive to get one bought.
