Chinese Carbon Fiber

Chinese Carbon Fiber #2

If you want to try your luck here's a few "authentic" carbon fiber trims produced in China

Unfortunately I have a bad experience with Chinese/Taiwan/Hong Kong based products.

On average: Quality 4/10, Fitment 2/10, Paint 5/10, Materials 5/10, Reliability 3/10

Did you actually buy that stuff? What was bad about the quality in particular? How was it unreliable???

I've found the material fine. Typically the resin is not perfect, occasional spots where the fiber is not laid perfectly. But they basically must use OEM parts to wrap. Don't understand how you can have reliability or fitment issues.

I've bought M-style mirror caps and a Spoiler

The first had deformed edges, scratches on the paint paint and didn't fit properly. The spoiler instead didn't even balance properly on the trunk. Just terrible. 3-4 week shipping, import tax and no realistic return policy.

Real carbon parts and wrapped factory trim are a horse of a different color. Granted, I've seen plenty of pretty weak carbon wrapped parts, but I don't know if I'd trust junk to fit right on the outside of my car when it might experience serious wind resistance.

It was just a recommendation to write an email to him - I never did because I am not interested in the interior trim. Maybe the creator of this thread knows more about it now?

Yes, they will do the trim without the logo and they would be open to a group buy if there is interest. I don't think this interior trim is exactly their biggest item, so probably not a big area of focus for them.

Isn't it possible to add like a clear glossy layer on top of the stock dry carbon trim?

I prefer the M2 carbon to the glossy type.

You could, but it's way more complicated than painting on a layer. Wouldn't be worth it
I don't like this open pore stuff. Look at every Ferrari, lambo, McLaren, etc. all have finished carbon and more and more of it.

I agree with the OP. I personally like the finished carbon much better, either glossy or matte will work for me. Not too impressed with the unfinished\dry carbon. I'm not sure if any other car manufacturer does it and even bmw only uses it on one model. All of the higher level BMW models use finished carbon. Tells me that this was a cheap attempt at giving the m2 some carbon interior bits. If I had a chance to swap out all the bits for factory finished carbon, I would do it in a heartbeat.

Like others I kind of prefer the gloss CF better but I have received a lot of compliments about the dry CF maybe because it's not commonly seen in cars.

The easiest and cheapest way to get rid of the dry carbon is to trade them with a regular 2 series owner. After that you could also wrap them if you are not happy with the design.
