HELP! Nissan Rogue - Honda CRV - Hyundai Tucson
I am in the market for a new small SUV. I have narrowed it down to the
1) Nissan Rogue - best styling interior and exterior (imo) 2) Honda CRV - best overall minus the looks (imo) and benchmark in its class 3) Hyundai Tucson - better styling compared to CRV and best warranty What do you guys think would make one stand out the most or have the edge in such a competitive market segment? Lastly, I plan to keep the car 6+ years and will be putting close to 20,000 miles a year on it. Thanks for your help guys |

I have a MB GLK Bluetec which I love, the thing gets amazing mileage and is comfortable and well built. I recently had it in for an inspection and they found that there was a small warranty issue to be dealt with and the part was going to take over the weekend to get delivered. I was given a rental, a Nissan Rogue. I thought it was a piece of junk. The milage was low on it, but the squeaks and rattles, I found it to be gutless, with a very high raving engine when accelerating. It also seemed to be terrible on gas.....just my two cents. Made me love the MB all that much more.

Go with Honda crv you will not have any regrets. It's by far the best suv in its class. Plus you will never have problems with it.

A year ago i was also looking at getting my wife a new vehicle and we settled with the new (at the time it was new) Hyundai Tucson 1.6 Turbo - TGDI AWD DCT as it was a good vehicle with a 200000km / 7 year warranty and for my wife this was perfect. we spec'd our's with all the extra's and have been enjoying it ever since with no issues what so ever... we have done 16000km's with it so far and it goes really well... its a great runner even with its tiny turbo and small engine, it has some decent pull and the 7 speed DCT gearbox works well and shifts quick. also fuel consumption isn't bad at all.

If I was in the market I would buy a Mazda CX-5. Highly competitive in reviews (some shootouts rank it #1). Honda sells more CRVs that Mazda sells vehicles (in the US), so there are definitely less on the road (which I prefer).

The CRV is the obvious choice among the three you list. However, for the sake of full disclosure, I will also say that there are others in the segment that I put ahead of the CRV.

Buying slightly used could be an option too. CRV is definitely the benchmark but honestly you have to drive them all and test them out.
I would agree with you that the Rogue does look the best out of the bunch.

This car will be my daily beater. I have already considered an X1 and upcoming X3 and it does not make sense to blast miles on a luxury car or even lease. I like the Mazda CX-5 but the problem is that the nearest dealership is 45 minutes away while these current options are all within a 10 minute drive from me. |

My suggestion would be a used 2012-2015 Lexus RX450h Hybrid, it would get better fuel mileage than those you listed without being gutless and is a much better car overall for daily duties. They are super reliable, more so than their gas coutnerparts and at current market prices they are selling for pretty much the same price as a gas model. Buying used you don't have to pay the premium for the hybrid.
It definitely won't make you stand out thou, perhaps go test drive one. VP at work bought a new CRV, yet i'm in my old 2010 rx450h and apparently I have a 'nicer' car...

The new CR-V is gorgeous. That said, we have a '16 RAV4 Hybrid that I really enjoy. It's the car the au pair drives the kids in but I take it on the weekends if we drive into the city. Can't praise it enough.

Not considering the Mazda CX-5 or VW Tiguan? Honda CRV is a great little car, but I'd be looking at those two first due to the fact that the CRV is LITERALLY EVERYWHERE here. I don't like mixing my car up in the lot.

Forget the Hyundai, just forget it.
The Nissan is supreme value over here anyway, the CRV quite pricey. So maybe price is your determining factor. The new turbo engine on the CRV is a game changer though as not there's a mundane suv with some torque rather than the ubiquitous 2.5L NA engine. Frankly, i'd look at 2014 RX350's too. |

Only thing that worries me is the premium I would have to pay for a Lexus in maintenance. What does yearly maintenance cost on your RX and have you had any major problems/repairs needed on your 2010? Quote:

In 60k all I've done are oil changes, never had to do brakes, there are no belts to change. Will do plugs and some fluids at 100k even thou Toyota recommends 160k I think. It's a Toyota, you pretty much change the oil and that's it...

We just got my fiance a 2017 Nissan Rogue SL in grey with that beautiful brown leather and Bose speakers. She absolutely loves the car. She had a GLK 350 before this and has always been a Mercedes girl but once she rode in this Rogue, she was sold. Funny story behind all of this, I had been rear ended in my daily Civic, so I was given a base model Rogue as my rental car. The first time she rode in it, it had her attention which is rare considering it was a base model. We went to the dealer and checked out the SL with brown interior. She fell in love and we left with the car.
I'm not familiar with the other two cars that you're interested in but you won't be disappointed with the Rogue. It feels planted, rides smooth, has plenty of safety features, looks stylish, interior is classy, and the price is right. edit: and the car takes 87 octane, which was one of the selling points for us.

I hate the Rogue. The Tucson is alright. Not a Honda fan, but of the 3, it'd probably be my pick.
I like the new CX-5. The new VW Tiguan is also hitting dealer lots. |

The only downside to many vehicles in this class is the CVT transmission. I'm sure the bean counters love them but behind the wheel there is nothing worse!
