M2 PE Exhaust Rattle

Loud rattle on start up. Stops once driving. Looking under the car, the exhaust is hitting the cross frame support. Is this normal or is there a way to adjust the performance exhaust to sit higher in the tunnel?

Thanks

This is not normal and the pipe should be a minimum of 12-14mm away from the brace - as per the official install instructions.
Unwanted rattling and particularly resonance will be increased the closer the pipe is to the support brace.

Does anyone have a link to installation instructions? Mine came installed from BMW. I would like to just fix it myself.

Loosen the clamp connecting OEM and MPE pipes. Push the MPE section in a little more and then retighten the clamp. This should raise the pipe sufficiently above the brace.

This will also pull the tips in a bit more out back.

To sum things up, it seems the port MPE installs in Baltimore are the source of the issue - OEM exhaust being cut too short. I had the same issue, so did a couple other people I know. After my fourth trip to the dealership to get this resolved, and a couple new clamps later. I ended up just going to RRT Racing and having the weld it. Issue resolved!

I have not seem one case where this is being used. I can only assume BMW decided not to use it.

Yes, even with the weld the exhaust has a light feeling, if you grab it near the bracket that is. The rear around the muffler and tips feels solid.

Do all of you guys experience the drone around 3K rpms? I got the clamp welded in as well but the drone is always there... trying to find a way to get rid of it (or at least get the drone to be quieter)

Had it confirmed on a visit to the manufacturers that the drone is inherent in the design of tjhe exhaust. M division were prepared to live with it as it was a side effect caused by something else they wanted to engineer in to the design.
It will never go nor fade, you just get used to it and it's only across such a small rev range that honestly, after a few thousand miles you will think it's disappeared!
Sounds soooooo good though - especially with a down pipe!

Ok got up on a lift and pushed the pipes together. Exhaust sits where it should now and feels more secure. Thanks for the advice!

Well I hopped in the car today and on start up it rattled forever....... I looked underneath and the exhaust is sitting on the cross brace support again? I guess I will have to get back on the lift and check it out. Getting over it. Really do not want to have to drop my car off at the dealership but I will before I start welding stuff.....

I took my car to the dealer at 1500 miles with rattle at cold start and randomly through warm up. They identified it as "hitting the heat-shield/underbody insulation". Apparently they bent it further out of the way. All I know is the rattle is no more 800 miles later, I hope that helps... YMMV

I did a cross country trip last month and developed the rattle. Took it to a dealer in LA and they fixed in in under a hour. Developed rattles again 1500 miles later on the return. Took it in to the dealer hear at home and they said there is a service notice and installed a newer clamp. Time will tell if this fix lasts.

Curious, why is there a roller/wheel on the midpipe?
