New owner saying hello
Just took delivery of my M2 and figured I would say hello to the group. Been lurking on here for the past year and am finally happy to say I'm finally an owner. After being on the list at a few dealerships for the past 1.5 years I managed to stumble across exactly what I was looking to order when someone else backed out at the last minute. I've been a BMW fan for the past 25 years starting with a 1975 2002 in high school. In order theres been:
1975 2002 Schwartz/Schwartz 1983 320is M/T, Bronzit/Schwartz 1995 E36 M3 M/T, Arctic Silver/Schwartz 2003 E46 M3 M/T, Mystic Blue Metallic/Schwartz 1974 2002Tii Fjord Blue/Dark Blue (seats from a 320is) 1999 E36 M3 M/T, Titanium Silver/Schwartz 2015 F80 M3 M/T, AW/Carbon Structure Cloth Sold the F80 about 6 months ago, as much as I enjoyed the power it was just felt too big for me. Been daily driving my 2010 997.2 4S which is a great car but limited for DD duty. The M2 fits what I was looking for perfectly and is the following: 2017 F87 M/T, LBB/Black, Exec Package I don't have a real plan for future mods but am toying with the following: (Possibly) Dinan S1 or S2 full conversion. Lots of $$ but I have always said I'd build a full Dinan car someday and this might be the perfect time to do it Suspension wise I have always been a huge fan of Ohlins and use them on both my road and track bikes. Seeing that they now have a dedicated setup for the F87. Or go with the Dinan coilovers? Still reading up on peoples experiences and hopefully will get a chance to meet someone who has done the conversion to see how they like it. My main thing is to leave it as stock (ride height wise) as possible with my steep driveway having a pension to chew up lowered cars for sport. My F80 with Macht-Schnell springs would scrape every time no matter how much of an angle I went in/out with...trying to avoid that. Don't really know if the F87 needs much more power as it seems very balanced right out of the box but its fun to have the options out there to personalize it to exactly how we want it to be. For now I'm still taking it easy to do a proper break in putting the engine under load in various driving situations and (trying) to keep it under 5500 RPM...1200 miles can't come soon enough. Look forward to learning and interacting with everyone of this forum, hopefully get the chance to meet up with other owners down here in SoCal. Don't have any of the stunning pics most of you do but here is one when I went and picked her up and back home in the garage with her older brother, I think they make good stablemates Last edited by Transcon; 08-01-2017 at 11:34 PM.. |

I would doubt that M Gmbh is the actual producer of the M coilovers. More likely whoever does the OE suspension also did the M stuff, so my first guess would be Sachs... but I don't have my M2 yet so I don't know what comes on the car.
Sachs makes a solid aftermarket setup for the cars they work with... but IMO Öhlins & Moton are in a league of their own.

Thanks for the replies guys.
Im leaning toward Ohlins just because I have a long history using them on bikes and have never been less than satisfied. Biggest thing for me is retaining a stock look and ride as much as possible while bringing the handling up to the next level. Still in break in period but power is not my main objective. I *think* about the Dinan S2 which would be fun in a way but might be a bit over the top for daily driver duties. For me personally this car should be all about handling so the suspension and brakes will be my first priority...that and just enjoying the hell out of driving it |

Thanks. It came with the Continental Sport Contact 3 which I was initially disappointed in as I have run the PSS's on both my F80 and 911. So far I cannot find too much to gripe about with them except possibly a bit more road noise but they give a nice an overall nice ride with predictable handling characteristics (in my limited mileage on them) Guess the nice (or not so nice $$$) thing with high performance tires is they wear out fast so Ill be changing them up before long if I decide I don't care for them.

Salesman from Irvine just called me to follow up. They have a '17 LBB M/T Exec package that was a BMW Corporate Demo car arriving next week with 10K miles on it. Didn't have a price for me but if someone is interested I could give you his name and he could help you out. Might be a good way to save some cash if you don't mind a few miles on a car |

Congrats, I have had mine since late October and just turned 15,000 miles. I absolutely love it. Perfect balance of power, handling, great size and excellent ergonomics. Sporty enough to give you a shot of adrenaline when you need it but totally drivable as a daily without any real compromises other than the stiff suspension. Plan on keeping mine long term.

11 days of fun driving through the canyons and I got the 1200 mile service done yesterday. Decided I would go the Dinan route and have a few parts on the way which should go on next week. Took my old Tii out for a drive this morning and really do feel the F87 captures some of the spirit that made the 2002 such a great car both in its day and today. While the F87 is probably more relatable to my E46; the roots of a lighter, no nonsense, drivers car still show through when driving it. Kudos to BMW for a solid showing of getting back to building the type of car that put them on the map.
