DCT in my M3 E92 is overall great but in traffic I am missing full control over clutch and rpm of the engine. In some situations rmp for a soft start at the trafic light is too high for my taste with the DCT. But BMW DCT is still better in this regard compared with PDK of some Porsches in Sports mode. Hey guys,
Just a quick question about engine braking with the rev matching that takes place. I commute up and down a fantastic mountain road, and would like engine braking to help with my regular braking. Does the rev matching eliminate downshift engine braking? I know the engine is very torquey so might be limited by that, but I guess I just want to know if there if good engine braking without having to shift into second gear at 80kph. Cheers, Ken |

Yes. Bonus feature: you can do it in reverse too. Last edited by blackholescion; 10-30-2016 at 03:21 PM.. |

[QUOTE=blackholescion;20781351]it does eliminate the braking cased by slipping the clutch while shifting into a lower gear. But once it's in that lower gear, normal engine braking that would be present in that gear takes over.
Thanks Ken |

After driving one, I felt like the car was also rev matching on the way UP. Up shifts were very smooth. You can just seamlessly move up or down a gear. Was that happening or was I just imagining things?

I haven't paid attention too much since I shift fast anyway but most modern manuals will hold revs for a split second to allow for this so it wouldn't be surprising if the M2 did it as well.

I just picked up my car this weekend and the rev matching will definitely take some getting use to. More than once I've been coming up to a red light and I shift the car into neutral and had to apply the brakes a little before I downshift and the rev match has startled me into thinking I accidentally hit the gas instead of the brakes.

yes it will rev match up and down. If however you hold the clutch in and delay the shift the rev match will deactivate and the revs will drop.

Do your M2's auto blip when you go from 5th or 6th to neutral? Mine does a small blip whenever I'm in 5th or 6th gear and putting in neutral while coming to a stop.

Only if you're pulling it close to the gate for a lower gear - the car gets tricked into thinking you'll downshift since you're at the gate.

Yes, I think it's extremely thoughtful of you not to deprive your neighbours of the wonderful sound of an unsilenced M2 at 6 am. They shouldn't be in bed at that time anyway

Absolutely love the rev match - mated with the MPE the blips sound glorious in any mode.
Side note quick question (yes i know its not on topic ) - how do I change the profile on how the car loads up, it always boots up in comfort mode and I have to change it to sport, or is that just the way it is? |

After you start the engine, make a habit of pushing also the "Auto Start Stop" button located above the Start/Stop button (if you want to deactivate that function) + push the SPORT button. No biggie.

I believe the "Auto Start Stop" remembers the setting so that you don't have to push it every time? O wait just realized you are in Belgium so perhaps it's different there. |
