2018 AW M2 | Build Thread | UPDATED 9/21/17
UPDATE: 9/21/17
Phase 1 is complete! Here are some photos IND shared with me: https://www.flickr.com/photos/592410...57686426609340 My 2018 AW M2 includes: DCT Executive Package Apple Car Play Phase 1 (a) KW HAS kit; (b) Macht Schnell 10 mm wheel spacers; (c) full RKP CF aero kit (front lip, rear lip, diffuser); (d) gloss black kidney grilles with blacked out m2 logo; (e) Axxecon rear reflector delete - honeycomb/gloss black; (f) IND front reflector delete - AW; (g) IND side marker - gloss black base with AW bar; (h) Macht Schnell 75mm stud conversion kit; and (i) full front XPEL. Now, I plan to drive the car around to reach the mileage for the break-in service, and then store the car for this winter (as I will not have the car winter ready this year and will not be driving in Wisconsin winter without a winter setup). Phase 2 In Spring 2018, I plan to attack exhaust with a catted downpipe (FI or Fabspeed, not sure which be, suggestions?) and a full catback exhaust (stuck between Meisterschaft and Eisenmann, opinions?) Phase 3 Lastly, I will look for a set of winter wheels and set of summer wheels. Really liking the HRE FF04 in IPA, the Apex SM-10 in black, or the OZ Leggera hlt in race grey. Any thoughts? I will keep you guys posted on my progress and I appreciate any suggestions/opinions you all may have. Cheers! Rob

1) Don't apologize for DCT.
Bimmerpost is an enthusiast forum so that's why it skews 6MT. In the real world it's probably 2 or 3 to 1 DCT to 6MT. Less engagement sure, but faster to 60! Don't let anyone make you feel bad about it. Everyone has their reasons. Traffic + the occasional Fiance driving made me go DCT. 2) Week 32 here too. 3) Same exact car. 4) What sale? 5) Plan looks good. I'll be following along. |

I never really understand doing 1/4 hood and fenders. It leaves a line. If you are hoping Xpel keeps your car looking sharp I think it's likely the line will bother you... but maybe it won't? Bothers me.

The problem with doing 1/4 of a panel is that it leaves 3/4 unprotected. Take a close look at cars that don't have the entire hood protected and you'll see a lot of chips in the unprotected area.

Yea, I couldn't focus on the rest of the post after that. Seriously though, while I'm a 6MT guy, no one should apologize for DCT if that is what YOU want, but if you actually want 6MT and you're getting DCT cz that's what SHE wants then, yes, you should apologize - to yourself!

That's what I was thinking. Thanks for the input. I will most likely go with the whole front.

Rob,
Did IND say 10mm and 12mm spacers will fit without any rubbing? I could have sworn I saw a post some time ago where they recommended 5mm front/back. Thanks |

my wife won't drive our i8 because it's too wide... i have a feeling if i had gotten m2 in dct, she wouldn't drive it because now it's too low. plus i don't want her cracking my 3d design lip or curbing the bbs wheels. lol
as for the mods, they look good. ultimately it's what makes you happy. i will say this though-if you're planning to do any light track duty at all, you should think about upgrading to at least v3 to get some adjustability in the dampers. if not, HAS are good |

And I don't plan on tracking in the near future. Don't have the time. Currently working full time and going to law school.

congrats but you should PPF full hood. I had many cars in the past and more than half of them got bird poop that melted into the factory clearcoat. It's visible whenever you look under the sun and I'm not taking that chance when I get my M2.

The other thing with the PPF partial hood is that the rocks hit the PPF on the leading edge and then bounce further back on the unprotected part of the hood. These chips are UGLY, even when repaired. After having it both ways on several cars, mine's getting the full PPF on the hood for sure.
