Suspension noises?
My car is making a clicking/creaking noise in the (front?) suspension/wheels. Sounds like creaking plastic when I go around corners or when I'm going about 30 mph and jerk the wheel left or right to test to see if I hear that sound. It's a bit hard to explain. At first I thought it might be because of the stiff spring rates, but unsure. The car is usually fully warmed up. It's a predominant sound of clicking or creaking. I will probably getting it looked at soon, but not sure if this is something that is normal or not or if anyone else has experienced...

Haven't experienced this myself. Maybe something is loose and needs tightening?

Ok, I found out what this was. I had an appointment at my dealer today and they informed me of a service bulletin on a part in between the Hub and Rotor. I'm not sure what exactly it is, but I'm thinking it's some sort of spacer? They are ordering the parts today for both right and left fronts to eliminate the crazy grinding/creaking noise I was hearing. It's not safety related, so I was able to take my car with me...Just an FYI for anyone else hearing funny noises like I have described.

Don't mind that it's in portrait as I did not take the video (I'm driving). It only occurs on sharper turns. Video: |

yeah same noise bro, but it wasn't that loud.
Also, I could replicate it to service in the same mater like you did. They just need to remove wheels, and do the proper cleanup. I'm positive it's just that as I had same noise as you. |

EDIT: I'm not sure what is on the service bulletin though. I'll ask when I go back in for these (new?) parts they are referring to. Seems like this has been documented before. |

I've heard the rock/pebble noise and it sounds NOTHING like what you posted above. I've not heard that on my car. Let us know how it turns out... and thanks for posting the video

Well...The noise is back. It's not as pronounced as it was before, but I think the brake heat shield is the cause again (or the shim). It's not a pebble, as I had that already and this sounds like something totally different. My CA actually recorded another video to show the SA. He said they may have an engineer look at it. I don't think there is any harm to the car, just a very annoying clicking sound.

i have the same problem on my m2
in my m135I similar and the solution is : my search : SI B34 08 14 Ticking Noise from Front Axle When Cornering SITUATION The customer may complain of a ticking noise from the front axle when cornering, maneuvering, parking or pulling away from a parking space. The noise can be heard as a light metallic ticking from the front outer cornering wheel. CAUSE Movement between the brake disc and wheel bearing hub. CORRECTION Remove and clean the front axle brake discs. Sand the hub surface on the brake disc to the wheel bearing hub using 80-grit sandpaper. Sand the surface in a radial motion (inside to outside around the surface. Clean the wheel bearing hub surface. Important!! Do not sand the hub surface. Do not apply any type of lubricant to the components surface (wheel bearing or brake disc). Reinstall the front axle brake discs. |

So, I just got back from my appointment and they are now adding a friction plate to the right front. They only did the left front the last time, however they did follow the service bulletin the last time (that I believe you posted). I'll let you know once they install the part. They only just ordered it today, but the funny thing is, I have not heard the noise since Saturday.

This is common on performance cars. I have seen it and heard soooo many times on so many different cars. Nothing to be worried about, only means you have driven your car decently.

Sorry, I did not get an alert like I usually do for a quote on the forum. Yes, they replaced the friction plate on the passenger side front. I haven't heard the noise since they replaced it. Hopefully that solves the problem for good, but if this crops up again, I'll post back in this thread.

Hello
I have a creaking sound (not ticking) coming from my front left suspension. It happens at low speeds/breaking or when turning the wheel at standstill. Any idea? anyone with same problems? I have eibach pros but was happening before anyway.... Top mounts? the Fix above? |

Repack Front Wheel Bearings
I had the steering click/clunk issue. It showed up the after a weekend at the track with new camber plates (which probably just hastened onset). My mechanic found a TSB for the X5 describing the same symptoms. He repacked both front wheel bearings per the TSB instructions to fix the issue.
I could easily demonstrate the issue by driving slowly (parking lot speed) and turning the wheel lock to lock. Alternatively, I could simply reverse direction and the front end would click/clunk. Never heard the click/clunk when driving at normal speed. I have around 9000 miles on it when the symptoms first appeared. |

I want to add my recent experience in case it's helpful to anyone...
I took delivery of a 2020 M2 Comp in August. Right away I noticed a significant metallic ping, creak, or tick sound coming from the front suspension. It would happen when entering my driveway or articulating the front suspension but also when turning the steering wheel while maneuvering into a parking spot. It was not a repeating rotational noise associated with the front wheels turning or related to applying the brakes. It sounded like something was loose or shifting whenever a load was applied. They checked out the calipers and tried the shim fix between the hub and disc. The dealer eventually diagnosed it as a problem on the upper front strut. They ordered new guide supports and washers (basically the upper mounting of the strut where it bolts to the frame) and replaced both driver and passenger side parts. It appears to have fixed the problem so far... |
