Lol each to their own mate. 30% tint is legal in Victoria, this is a safe 15%. Removable film.

I only think it works on black cars but personal taste anyhow.

I'll never understand why someone wants to darken the very thing that helps prevent them from getting rammed from behind.

Of course you can always say (from the hospital bed) "At least I looked cool"

Sorry - but like you said, to each his own.

I'll never understand why people make comments like this if they have never actually seen a 15% tint with brake lights on and off... There is basically no discernible difference to the brake or tail lights when on so if someone runs into the back of you it is a bit of a reach to blame a fully legal tint. FWIW, my insurance company have passed it (I declared it) - and I even swung past a RWC garage and "unofficially" queried their view - which was a resounding "yes we would RWC that car as tinted".

I do however agree with you Doug_999 that tint is subjective (I hate dark tint on white cars for example) but it was a cheap mod and the hideous 2 series rear lights are significantly less ugly as a result.

Perhaps one day soon I will upgrade to the LCI - if they ever fit an S55 variant - then I may not bother with the tint.

Muffy, happy to join you on your next trip up to the hills if you'd like some company.

I drive to the limit so will be slow!

It sounds to me like it is a 15% reduction and like I said, I don't want any reduction in the brightness of something that is designed to save my ass (literally ).

On the plus side, you guys are lucky - because I suspect that it being legal there helps and/or eliminates the lawsuit side of things. I can assure you that over here, someone would be using that against the person they hit and would have a great chance of winning - even if it was legal, because the fact is, they made their lights dimmer and harder to see (even 1% would help win the case).

LBB Pure M2 (non LCI) built and on its way to shippers. ETA (delivery) - end July.

M Performance steering wheel with LED display ordered to be installed at dealers before delivery.

Bimmer Masterpieces Alcantara hood cover ordered (frankly, it was just to complement the wheel)

M Performance exhaust - TBD. Getting a price for it but going to drive around with the regular set up first.

Famous last words - "No more mods"

Electronic wheel and hood cover will look awesome together, if you haven't already ask for your vin #, you can then track the car on its journey over.

Window tinting films are almost always rated by How much light they transmit, not how much they block. Thus a 15% VLT film will block 85% of the Visible Light Transmission.

If there's a film out the that only blocks 15% (ie. 85% VLT), I've never seen it. If it did exist, it would look almost completely clear.

Anyway, I'm not commenting on the legality of tinted tail lights or how sensible it may or not be. Just clearing up the nomenclature.

I'm in no hurry to lose my license!

The drive days are just fun, not flat out like track days. The area i drive is very twisty and technically 100kmh limits but in reality 90% are corners and you are maybe at 60-80kmh for most of the drive. We always have catch up points anyway. I'll let you know when the next one is.

Well there you go i did not know that! Thanks.

Ultimate I still feel it is personal taste and as long as it is legal I'm happy. I genuinely cannot see an 85% reduction in visibility though, the lights are absolutely visible at all times.

Doug_999- Glad we are not in the US if the litigation mentality is that silly. Here in Oz it is still your fault if you drive up the arse of a car with NO brake lights after all... don't tailgate is perhaps the lesson?

It is very simple here in the US - it is always someone Else's fault

.
Sounds like this article and the laws out there disagree with you - at least in terms of nomenclature

I'm getting excited - the ship my car is on is just outside Melbourne and due in Port Kembla in a couple of days. My dealer reckons it takes a good two weeks for it to clear customs and get to the dealership, but I was looking at my last car's delivery schedule and it docked on 9th March 2013 and was in my hands on 20th.

Has the process of getting through customs changed recently? Can anyone shed light on the time it takes from arrival on our shores until delivery? Thanks!

Thought I would ask this here: Any of you Melbourne guys know a good place to get the car washed? I live in an apartment and have no where to wash my M2 and definitely do not want to take it to one of those car wash places that will just put swirl marks in the paint.

Question: Adaptive lights.

Mine turn to the left only and not the right. Is this how it's supposed to work?
