2018 Base Price Increase

Looks like the base price of the M2 has increased $1000, from $53,500 to $54,500. I don't see any other changes - option packages all look to be the same price.

Interesting we didn't see this one coming, unlike the price bumps last March and with the 2018/LCI in July. I guess they're trying to steer folks into an M4... except that also went up by $1000.

Sorry for dumb question: I put a deposit down on the 29th for a week 6 M2. Have a purchase order and everything. My price won’t change right?

The M3 went up $1000 to $66,500, and the M4 went up $1000 as well to $68,700. I’m glad I ordered my M2 in October and received it before the new year. I do feel like the M2 is still an amazing value.

Does this increase the cost of current inventory?

If you don't have a production number I do not think you have any price protection.

I put an order in on a build on 12/22. I didn't ask for such things as production numbers or week of production, since I don't have any intention of spending my time worrying about that sort of thing, nor am I going to follow the car's movements once it leaves the factory. I might even do European Delivery, which my salesman and sales manager told me I could elect to do later, once the car goes into actual production. They are going to call me once production starts.

ED will probably not work out for me since the approximate completion period they gave me conflicts with other plans that I have, and my next scheduled trip to Europe is probably a bit too far out for them to hold the car there for me.

I did send the salesman an email requesting confirmation that the car would come in at the price we negotiated 10 days ago. Here is what I received as a response:

"Since we submitted the build last month, it will be price locked at the price you signed on."

So whether or not you actually got a production number or build date, if your dealer submitted the order prior to the price increase, I would assume that you are probably protected at the old price.

I do have a production number. I just hope they don’t limit the price protection to a certain delivery time.

Any reputable dealer will honor the pricing as of the date the order was submitted.

The agreed-upon price should be on the purchase order, so there should be no need to worry.

Good to hear!

I also have an M2 on order, but no production #. I do have a final price, and it clearly states US $53,500.

Hey, a thousand here, a thousand there... before you know it, you have two thousand dollars!

Maybe the price increase is a function of the weak and weakening USD...

My thinking is the same, Bt12. I've also wondered if the new Competition model has less to do with buyer requests/demands or even the need to refresh the model and more to do with expanding the options list to boost profitability just to overcome what has effectively been a 14% hit to profitability due to dollar weakness since last December. I thought for sure we were going to par with the Euro when it hit 1.05, but it has gone dramatically the other way.

LOL, good grief, cool story brah.
If BMW accepted the dealer order, the order was assigned a production number. You not knowing what a production number is means nothing. Production number = BMW accepted order = BMW price protection.

Yeah, I got that. Some people placing orders seem willing to make the ultimate delivery of this car the focus of their lives until it arrives :-) My hope and expectation is that at the end of the year, the delivery of this car will be a minor event in the overall scheme of things. It's just a car, and I want to accomplish oh, so much more in the next 12 months.

It seems strange to me to use an enthusiast website to look down your nose at people who are excited about the delivery of their cars.

I'm not looking down my nose at anyone. I would hope that most people who have been successful enough in their lives to be able to afford this sort of a car, would have other, more important stuff happening in the coming year than the delivery of a car.

It's just a "thing." In the last year I accomplished a whole bunch of stuff, mostly in the business realm, and I look forward to more of the same in 2018. I hope that others here also have more going on in their lives so as to make the purchase of an automobile just a dot on an "i" or the cross on a "t," in the overall scheme of things.
