Well, since we own a 2020 M2C and a 2018 LCI I will give you my take.
I love them both pretty much equally except for one thing and one thing only... With respect to the M2C I can put up with the exposed cooler, crank hub made out of tissue, 788M wheels, raspy sound and extra weight but... That cow udder of a hanging diaper they call a muffler is beyond the pale. Peace. |

Hell if according to BMW my wife's SUV is an M car now than your little OGs can be too!
Also for those making fun of the comps penchant for a flatulent exhaust note - that only bothers those losing to the comps (i.e. the slow OG) And before any OG owners blow up I'm kidding - I actually own both. I feel the OG is more in line with the traditional M car philosophy compared to any other M in the last couple of gens. I love the OG just hard to overcome it's inherent weaknesses on the track. The comp just shines in that usage and the ceiling is much higher. Both excellent cars - but they excel in different areas and that to me is the driver on which one to go with. If track capability wasn't as important to me vs street character I would go with the OG every time.

The OG is easier to track as a daily driver and the cooling issues are less of a factor for intermediate drivers that don’t run competitively at COTA in late July when it’s 110. The ceiling is high enough with a track prepped OG that it more than meets the target for a dual purpose solution. For an intermediate driver not looking to run time attack events and just out for enjoyment at a DE, the OG shines. Given how I use mine, moving to a comp would require a set of APs. I’m having a ton of fun running WRL race pace at Barber in an OG and it’s difficult to argue a M2C would bring any benefit in my particular use case. So long as I don’t run in July/August |

I used to dislike 788M too, but I run 437M as my winter wheels and I have to say that I like them equally now. |

Trust me when I say that if it ever becomes possible to make the TT S55 sound as good as the ST N55 without ditching one of the turbos it'll be time to sell my OG for an M2CS. |

M can mean different things to different people. Personally i dont see an X3M, X5M, or that new monstrosity XM as a real M car. To me an M car is about driving pleasure, light weight, rwd, NA, and a good trans (manual or dct). Of course, living in 2022 we have to make sacrifices and can't have it all... so the f87 is the best M car available imo. Would be better with an S65 V8 under the hood though.
The f80 is the best 'M5' available. Its the size of an E39 and you get a good m-dct or manual trans instead of the zf8.

ASD is terrible regardless of what engine (N55, S55, S58, etc.) IMO. I really don't understand why they put in into OG M2 tho - N55 already sounds really good in both induction and exhaust. S55 has an angrier/raspier induction note that doesn't really change a whole lot whether UEL or EL exhaust is used - granted it has a little more range after being colored by an EL exhaust.

It seems to me that M2 ownership is already fairly exclusive (in terms of number of M2's compared to the general automotive fleet). So, I'm not sure why some feel the need to make it even more exclusive by trying to exclude a segment of M2 owners. Sentiments like "my M2 is a real M car and yours isn't" doesn't serve to build or strengthen this community.
For me, I decided to take an afternoon this weekend to detail my OG LCI M2. I cleaned the 437m wheels, washed the car, put some Adam's Polishes VRT on the tires, and dreamed about getting some wheel curb rash remedied. Throughout, I admired her hips and reveled in ownership of my LCI M2 after having spent a couple years planning and saving for it. Then I went for a short drive and loved every moment of it. That's enjoyment that forum comments won't dent! I remember rampant disagreements like this over in the WRX/STI forums. When I was a new WRX owner, I tried frequenting those forums. They were so full of "mine is bigger, better, faster, harder, longer than yours" rants that I didn't stick around. By contrast, this community has been so much more helpful and eager to look out for the fellow owner that I've really enjoyed contributing over the past initial year of BMW and M2 ownership. |

Plot twist... none of what we drive are M cars. This one is tho:
https://www.press.bmwgroup.com/globa...xm?language=en "...the BMW XM is also the first BMW M original since the BMW M1..."
