Imagine the scene: you pull up in front of an admiring crowd with your windows down on a warm summer day. The M2 looks a veritable beauty and people are staring enviously. You switch off the throbbing engine and then you open your door and instead of a sleek windowless low-slung profile... you have door frames ! Can you imagine how totally NAFF that would look ? It would be embarrassing

I love them until it becomes a problem. I could open my doors today, but couldn't shut them because the window didn't budge. The rubber trim is too low for the door to close. I had to sit in my car for almost 20 minutes to warm enough so the window could come down. For some reason the rubber seal isn't so low that I can't open the door. I don't know what I would do if the door wouldn't open. |

You know what's more annoying than frameless windows? door handles that are placed near the hinge. The type of thing you'd assume German engineers would meticulously squabble over. It's a coupe, so it inherently has long ass doors. It's hard to carefully open the door when it takes a lot of torque to move it since the damn door handle is about a foot away from the door hinge, and the usual spot you can grab it by near the end of the door doesn't exist in the M2. It's stupidly annoying, especially when I park on the far left side of my garage and try to avoid hitting the wall when I open the door.

Frameless>>> framed
I am so used to my frameless doors that last summer I opened the door on my wife's car while the windows were fully down and almost whacked my face against that ugly black discolored frame cuz I wasn't expecting it to be there. OK next topic... Do you agree with BMW's decision to go with a circular gas cap when the other 2 series cars have square ones? |

The issue is not that the windows are frameless, it's that the windows drop down when the doors are opened so they're unsupported laterally when the door is closed, hence the movement and rattle. My Chrysler Crossfire had frameless windows that didn't drop on opening, and after seven years the doors closed like bank vaults, unlike my M2. I've never had another car with windows that drop so I don't know if it's poor implementation or a design characteristic.

BTW, I always assumed they dipped to facilitate opening/closing the door (i.e., by breaking the air lock). -scr |

I view this thread a legitimate First World Problem as defined by Wikipedia "First World problem is a slang term used to refer to issues in First World nations that are complained about only because of the absence of more pressing concerns."
... and only God knows how many times I personally have exhibited and most likely will continue to exhibited such behavior. However, the reason and motive for this posting is for all the bimmerpost community to say a few prayers for our fellow member Michiel who sadly passed away last week. http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=950979 Please take a moment if you have the time (and you should) to read his story.
