Notice that he hasn't denied anything about the M2 being at either.....

I believe he has in the past. I was hoping he'd give the awesome answer of "I can neither confirm nor deny"

Very true. I guess there is still some hope.

M2 is a unicorn. We were talking about whether the M2 concept would show at last year's LA Auto Show, and now we're talking about this year's LAAS with still no confirmation of it appearing.

Let's watch two winter videos of the past to entertain ourselves in the meantime.

^^^ I wonder now if the M2 will debut at the same auto show as the 1M did. That'd be almost too late though

+1 Finding cargo manifests, using VIN decode, ... sounds more like an episode of CSI ("Captain, we tracked those BMW M2s down to a warehouse just outside town" ...)

Quick question:

If this car was priced identically to an f80, would you still get one??

I'm very curious to know what the 'threshold' is for people who are cross shopping the two cars.

5k in MSRP?? $100-150 per month in lease payments?

Or are most of you guys whole heartedly committed to this car to the point that the m3/4 aren't even in the picture?

I would most likely still get this car even if the cost comes out to an F80, which it definitely won't

I am pretty confident pricing is going to be very close. If you can afford one, you can probably afford the other.

Regardless, I'm just curious.

There is no chance that it's going to be priced above 55k starting

We'll see. My m235i was 50k.

I would be shocked if you could get it on the road for less than 55k.

The 135is was only about 4k cheaper than the 1M (1M was done before the 135is came out).

Don't forget the M2 is still a 2 series. Features, interior materials, etc... are all going to be 2 series quality.

Definitely a fair point.

Back to the original question though: are people cross shopping the m2 with the f80? If so, is there a pricing threshold that is swaying you one way or another?

Just so you know, most of us are comparing base MSRP with no options.

2016 M235 base no option msrp is $44k

so most of us expecting a 50k to 55k base no option msrp on the M2 seems pretty plausible

I'm considering the two (among other cars from different manufacturers).

I'm pretty certain the base price will be nicely slotted between the m235i and the F80.. so somewhere between $51-55k.

Any higher than $55k and the F80 case will be much stronger.

All in all, I think we can finally confirm that the M2 will make its public debut at the NAIAS show in Detroit... So nothing in Tokyo and nothing in L.A. This means waiting even longer, although let's hope I get an invite to the press drives, and I can share with you my thoughts.
