Both great cars but for different purposes. Love the GT4 but I can't imagine it as my daily. Hope to add one to my garage some day along with my M2 and some other fun toys

I have a 6MT M2 on order, going through the Panama Canal now. I'm British, but moved to the US 6 years ago. I'd driven manual my whole life before moving here, and then had an auto because the car I bought wasn't available in manual. I'm so looking forward to going back to manual, but also a little apprehensive because I've never driven a LHD manual!

Shifting with my left hand is all I've ever done.... Hope the transition is easy enough.

Please don't let this thread turn into a manual vs auto discussion, my point was about the hand used to shift!

Nice car the GT4 but prefer to get the 1M out of the garage than the GT4. No real difference in day to day performance and I find the GT4 just a bit on the hard side for regular road use

On the track a different story

I think you could DD the GT4, but the clutch is heavy, that would be the only issue.

I think - for the UK- the prices on the GT4 will come down slightly and I'm seeing the same trend as the 1M just before the M2 was released, everyone started panic selling there 1M's and there were plenty for sale and prices were down about 5k. Then the M2 came along, it wasn't Ltd, it wasn't as special as the 1M and the price of the 1M has gone up again. There is a new GT4 on the horizon and rumoured to have a naturally aspirated engine and a pdk/manual option, if it's Ltd like the 2016 GT4 and if it is N/A then the prices will drop,if it's not Ltd and not manual then I think the GT4 value will go up again.

I'm really happy with this car and regardless of the price going up or down il be going to the track with it and il be using it not storing it!

Willing to bet that if BMW but 40K more into the M2, it would be a different car but then, would anyone buy it?

Congrats OP.

I just sold my GT4 and my M2 is being delivered in January. If i didn't love my track car (and the relatively low operating cost of it) I'd have kept the GT4. Absolutely no complaints about it. It was my fun, weekend car, but moving on to something with a backseat (M2), so my wife and toddler can come along.

Enjoy in good health!

Congrats op, the cayman gt4 is phenomenal. And the 3.8 is a gem
JTO24 care to weigh in about oil change prices?

I just did my second oil change on GT4. Intermediate service @2400 miles. It was $975.

I don't have a gt4 but I can't imagine that is a fair price. What exactly was done?

For the same motor in the 991.1s the 40k service which includes oil change, air filter and spark plugs is 1095.

It is not as easy to get at the engine in the Cayman, might have to drop the engine down slightly to get at the plugs.

You shouldn't even be allowed to do a comparison between the M2 and GT4 because they are polar opposite! The GT4 is planted, the gearbox, its like engaging a bolt action rifle and sound from the engine is unreal! I feel the M2 is just a car and the GT4 is a race tool...

That said, we are talking 40k more for the GT4 and not as usable as M2. Still love the M2, just blown away by the GT4!
This is also my aim into 2018 (we will see if it will happen). I want to keep my lovely M2 as my daily car (I enjoy it to much every day). I know how awesome the GT4 is...I have dreams of owning one... But I don't know if I can give up my M2 for that. So in the perfect world I would still own my M2 and get a GT4 aside for track and purely fun.... Will need to sell my Z4M to do that and I hope the prices of used GT4 will drop a bit more when the new GT4(RS) is launched in 2018... We will see...but nice to see some other carlovers have my personal dream garage (or did you sell your M2?).

Comparing a M2 vs GT4 is stupid and makes no sense (sports/track car VS sports sedan)... M2 GTS vs GT4 would make sense...but the GT4 is a way bigger compromis then the M2...the M2 is in my opinion the best of all worlds and does everything good (for that price). M2 is the perfect "one car" in the garage...that does a lot!

The intermediate service is more than just the oil change. It included changing numerous filters, etc. Labor is also a large part of it. It didn?t need it, but since it sits so much it has been two years and this was the next scheduled maintenance.

I am like you guys in that I like cars. I like the M2 and it has a great stance and looks excellent . I used to have an M4 and an E92 M3 before that. I definitely like BMWs and follow the following forums: M2, M3/M4, rennlist, and audizine.

Appreciate your view. My view is that NO car doesn't depreciate. The gt4 is due to depreciate because it is relatively overpriced. A 2011 turbo has already ridden far down the depreciation curve. A better driver's car is relative, of course the turbo is more of a gt, but it is much faster than a gt4. And it can take kids in the backseat...

Porsche GT models depreciate very little, if at all in the first 4-5 years of ownership. Why do you think so many people flip their GT models cars? My buddy has gone from a 997.2 GT3, to a 991.1 GT3, to a GT4. He actually made money on the 997.2 and broke even on the 991.1. He has a dealer that gives him msrp for early allocation cars. It is so hard to get an allocation on Porsche GT models, when you decide to sell after a few years of ownership their values are strong. His GT4 is now selling for $10-$15k more than what he paid. Once you get in the GT game, you are set.

Whoever compared a m2 to a gt4??? Gt4 is probably the most attractive package out there atm. M2 is a great package too!!
