Leather shift knob for M2?

I don't like the feel of my factory M2 manual shift knob. It looks and feels like cheap plastic. I want to replace it with a leather shift knob. Anyone here have experience with leather shift knob for the M2? Can it be replaced by someone not so handy (me)?

I google for M2 leather shift know and a few links came up. I thought I should get expert opinions from this forum before ordering one.

Excuse my comment, but that thing is really gaudy and gross, it looks like it belongs in a cheap Japanese Hot Hatch car.

Get the carbon one for IND distribution. It's beautiful and super easy to swap

Haha dont tell me about it. I initially ordered Genuine OE carbon fiber shiftknob with alcantara boot from my dealer. BMW does not have carbon fiber knob that comes with polar blue stitched boot, but only comes with white stitching as it shares the parts with 2ers. I did tell my SA to see if they are able to switch this factory boot to replace this white stitched boot. However, they ended up installing the white boot carbon knob as they figure that they cannot replace as boot and knob are glued together without giving me any notice...

So I ordered one from iND and thinking to do the swab myself but it was damm hard to pull the white one that my dealer installed... dont get me wrong, I am not a skinny weak guy without any strength to make it happen. Brought it to my dealer to ask to take it off, they had "2 mechanics" to have it removed but DID NOT WORK. They said it is very very tight and also worried to causing any damages if they REALLY TRY to remove them.

I was dissapointed and ended up bring it back home with white stitched boot. Mine was sitting at dealer for 2 days and I had to pay for the loaner haha....

Brought back into my garage and i was like... Yeah lets just give it a one last shot and i made it out without making any damage when pulling it hard.

Long journey but replaced it as I really wanted and sold the white stitching boot knob to a forum member....

Hope anyone who already have installed the carbon fiber knob in theirs, yes be prepared when you want to replace it to something else hahaha....

Just bought one of these myself and should get it in Thursday. Like all of IND products I have purchased so far they are fantastic quality and match the cars color and styling perfectly.

I've modded a few things in my car but nothing comes close to how nice this shift knob is

The shift knob should be fairly easy to do, just requires a little bit of force! To be honest, most of the really popular shift knob replacements we've seen are a mix of alcantara and carbon versus the OE material, but the ZHP knob is always a really nice OE alternative if you're committed to keeping it leather. I like both options because they have more weight to them, which makes the shifting experience much more pleasant and sure-footed.

Shoot me a PM if you like and we can go over your options in more detail!

I was able to find the MP shift knob with the white stitching boot on Amazon for $190 shipped and just swapped out the boot with my OEM polar blue stitched boot. Took 20 min to do everything. I just hot glued the back of tabs and no issues, looks awesome and save about $100. No offense to IND.

No offense whatsoever, we love a good DIY! There are always different ways to achieve similar results and I've definitely gone your route for previous cars. Ours in certainly a true "plug and play" solution wherein you could go 100% to stock or vice versa without the fuss.

Got it in last week and love the way it looks and feels. The car should have come this way. Matches the interior better than the stock knob.

Hi Mike,

Do you have the knob only without the boot? My car already have the blue stiching alcantara from the facory so I only need to swap the knob

Hi Hameed! Which knob are you looking for? There are some that come as a full set, whereas others are sold separately. Feel free to shoot me a PM!

If anyone wants the M Performance carbon knob with polar blue boot brand new not used send me a PM - I have it and it's way too small for my hands so I will be selling it at a good price!
