I passed on the MPE. I felt the stock exhaust sounded perfect for my needs. At some point they get obnoxious when they're too loud. Just throw something like these on your stock exhaust and you're good to go.

I'm taking delivery next week and i'm sure it will stay stock too... Time will tell, of course, but when i heard an MPE M2 cold start i know i couldn't bear that horrid chaotic farming tractor sound every morning... then again, time will tell...

So I purchased the MPE, even with the reservations I had prior to install. A few things I’ve noticed which others have, is the drone around 2,800-3,100 rpm (give or take 100 rpm). Maybe I am getting used to it, but with mileage the drone appears to be lessening.
Another interesting thing I noticed, is the turbo spooling during rpm increase. The burples and pops, are a bit excessive.. but I still like it. Stock was not that bad imo. With my MPe purchased in March 2018, I could see that bmw has installed a flex section. I’ll try to get pics later today. Very brief, and light rattles on startup compared to all the videos I’ve seen posted all over. Just woke up, so apologies for any silly sounding sentences. |

I just picked my car up today and like the sound of the stock exhaust also. I still may go MPE or Dinan down the road, but it's going to be awhile.

MPE valve closed is slightly louder than stock. And in s/s+ where factory valve opens, stock exhaust sounds much deeper than MPE valve closed. And there is a little drone at 3k even when MPE valve closed, as most reported. Where stock exhaust sucks big time is being muted at upper rev range, the same goes to most of other turbocharged engines today. The best would be MPE track mode all the time, but not everyone can live with that loudness though.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I got quite a lot of input to my questions!
I am still undecided on the MPE. From the thread I got triggered to research a downpipe (with cat) option and if I wouldn't (potentially) void the warranty, this one would be my so far favorite solution in combination with the stock exhaust (love the racy sound of it!): http://www.akrapovic.com/#!/car/prod...96&yearId=4592 And this Sunday a fellow M2 owner from Chicagoland will let me listen to his MPE live! I will report afterwards, I am hoping that the live demonstration will let me decide on the MPE. |

Just a quick update on my decision in regards to MPE or not MPE. A very friendly M2 owner from Chicagoland gave me the opportunity today to see and hear his MPE on his stunningly looking black 2017 M2. To make the story short, he cranked the engine and my decision was made! It has to be the MPE! OMG, what an amazing sound this MPE emits! I had not expected to get to hear even close to what I got to hear live! No Youtube video, whatsoever would even get close to how that beast sounds in real life, which adds the real-life deep sound vibration. This is day and night to the stock exhaust! As much as pictures can't show the beauty of the car compared to looking at it yourself, as much you got to hear the MPE in real life. Should anyone have doubts about getting it or not, listen to it live! He also took me for a spin and probably I won't listen to any music, other than the one coming through the open windows!
A big big thank you to Seth and his dad for providing me the opportunity today!!! P.S. During the cold start not the slightest sign of any rattle or excessive vibration! P.S.2. I forgot about my neighbors, but they just have to live with it ... |

Pacific BMW has posted a new video, comparing the M2 stock exhaust vs the MPE.
Listen to it on your home stereo with a good subwoofer, I think that gives you the best impression of how they sound in reality. Unfortunately he only compares them without the flaps on the MPE open. |

Absolutely go for it, i don't have any rattles and i've had my exhaust since last summer, i did have a drone but i replaced my downpipe with a sports cat from Akrapovic, now the exhaust sounds even more meaty and grunty and loud and the drone is effectivly gone.
not to mention you will have full warrenty with BMW. i wouldn't change it for anything. |

I also was on the same boat couple weeks ago. My car just went into production and i was on the edge about the MPE with all the issues, but once my dealer received a car with the MPE and i test drove it, omg i fell in love. So i am getting my car with the m performance package for $4,550.

She is finally at the dealership!
After a long wait, she has finally reached the dealership!
Still to be prepared in the morning, taking delivery later in the day! Cannot wait, cannot wait And yes, she's got the MPE!!! Thanks to all members who have helped me go through this rather extensive MPE research! |
